Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

well if you charge VAT when you aren’t registered for it that’s just fraud

if you aren’t registered you get the same amount you charge
Only if you invoice it as VAT. IF I’m not registered for VAT I can charge the same as a VAT registered competitor or slightly less and get to keep the 20% myself.

All of those standing are promising to "fix the broken economy"

All those standing have spent the last 6 months how strong our post Brexit ( psssssttt its not done yet ) and post Covid ( pssstt its still raging like a bastard ) economy is............................. and they expect a respectful audience listening to them

She’s a Brexiteer and will appeal to the right of the party, but she’s never held a serious position in government, so while her ordinariness and lack of blemish might get the Mail behind her, it might prove her undoing in these extraordinary times.

I‘m of the opinion that Sunak will get through the opening round and that once he does he’ll then ruthlessly expose the economic ignorance of his opponents. They’re all going to come promising the sun and he’s going to rain on their parade. He’ll try to expose their ignorance and paint them as fantasists as the country slides closer and closer into recession. He’s been plotting this contest for months and will have a detailed plan that the others will not; question is whether in those months of planning he‘s held off taking decisions for the country because it didn’t fit his agenda.
Sunak for me is incredibly damaged, you have replaced a law breaking PM with a law breaking PM. If he introduces austerity while married to a women who is literally richer than the Queen but avoided paying taxes herself that will go down like a shit sandwich.

Add in the fact that he previously held a green card while an MP, he cannot play the patriotic card as he basically swore allegiance to another country. Presenting himself as a fiscally responsible politician when he blew the budget on take aways a year ago is hilarious. I would also question his ability to appeal to a broad range of voters outside of narrow tory spectrum.

For me the Sunak ship has sailed. Javid would be a far better choice I think. But regardless, they have no one to match Johnson as a campaigner.

Which is why Sunak shouldn’t stand a chance due to his role as chancellor during the period we got so far in the shit.
