Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

Truss would be an absolute disaster, no economic plan whatsoever, just false promises.

Sunak not much better.

I'll take whoever can get to the next election without fucking the country over any more and then we can vote all of the cunts out.
I want Sunak, simply because if Truss becomes PM, the damage Labour will have to undo will be worse.

Missed it, may catch up in due course for a laugh, but on the news, someone in Stoke when asked opened with "Liz Truss is getting annihilated"

I thought the coverage was shit to be honest, particularly the lack of any genuine participation from the audience, and Sophie Raworth was far too weak with the interjections.

The issue is there will have been strict guidelines on what they could and couldn’t do in terms of challenging either of them to get the debate aired in the first place.

Don’t doubt that, but Raworth tried on several questions to stop Sunak talking over Truss, and she just let him speak anyway. She had no control over the debate and it suffered as a result.

That said, given how poor Truss was, I don’t suppose anyone could have made anything out of it.

She would have been picked for that reason.

Matliss, Wark, or Barnett would have torn then to shreads and that wouldn't go do well

Truss is a truly woeful performer. It’s like watching the trainee teacher in front of a class of blood-smelling hyenas.
Thatcher (spit) impersonator
Adopted the wardrobe
Copied the deepening of the voice
Mimicking the slow and careful delivery
Promising tax cuts but will "discover" things that mean taxes will immediately increase

Truss seems awkward as fuck on here tonight. Faisal Islam walloped her on what she would do with the long term borrowing costs of paying back the covid debt.
This was the defining moment for me - she completely disintegrated when he asked her about borrowing costs, although it was probably too nuanced to be picked up by any of the papers.

There’s absolutely no chance she will do an interview with Andrew Neil as he would focus on that.
