They do. The problem is that modern politicians see experts as the 'blob' trying to prevent them from doing the stuff they want to do.

The first stage of wisdom is to know that, in the scheme of things, you actually know fuck all. Unfortunately, the Dunning-Kruger effect runs rampant in society. It now touches even high-level politicians, who (generally) used to be wiser. In a nutshell, that is how we have got to where we are, and how it will be very hard to get away from that position. It is why democracy has failed as a system.

I actually read a comment today, presumably from someone over 18 who has been to school, to the effect that any child who has operated a model train is capable of driving a real one. This was not taking the piss; the person actually believed it. God help us! It demonstrates the mindset of a fair section of the community.

I really didn't think we'd ever get a worse PM than the buffoon, but it looks increasingly likely that his successor is going to be even worse!

The idea of her steadying the ship and winning the next election is just absolutely implausible. I don't see any way that's possible.

I think there's two options - the one you suggested above, or the Tories doing what the Tories like to do and ousting her from within, and reappointing Bozo.

Maybe it’s Johnson taking out the candidates so that he has to continue as PM.
