Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

The collective relief when he became PM was almost euphoric. Promised so much.

Yet delivered little. Made a few quid for himself along the way.

I don't want the Tory cunts back in power. I would like to see a Labour government that will do its own thing and not be a piss poor Blair tribute act.

It feels like the Tories want to go back to Thatcherite 80's and the Labour want to do the same with a return to the 90's.

The world has changed dramatically since then. All I want is fairness all I see is a current government stealing everything for profit and an opposition letting them with no radical policy that will in invigorate the nation and the people. I'm feeling run down by it all.

I apologise to @Shaelumstash for my previous outburst. I'm getting vexed with it all and need to take a chill pill.
I understand mate, I feel as exasperated with it as you do.

I disagree that he achieved little, and I think his record proves that unequivocally. But I’m not interested in arguing about it.

If you look at the last 3 eras of British politics - Thatcher, Blair and the Cameron / Johnson era, which would you prefer to live in?

I totally understand your politics might not align with Blairs and Starmers, no problem at all.

But Starmer is the best (only) chance to get rid of these diabolical Tory cunts.

There would be nothing to gain by coming out with extreme policies at this stage. The focus has to be getting rid of these, and the best way to do that is to look like a competent, moderate alternative.

Once he’s in power, then he can start making dramatic changes. But the focus now HAS to be getting rid of these. Anything else (including Blair vs Corbyn) is just enabling these cunts to get in again, and we cannot let that happen

I've been watching the leadership debates and I'm finding it difficult to reconcile the words coming out of their mouths with the reality regarding the state of the country. The tories have been in power for over 12 years now, everything is a shattered remnant of how it used to be, and they seem to inhabit some sort of fantasy world with their self promoting 'I have delivered' bullshit.

I'd like to see Claude Litner from The Apprentice have them write their CV's, then see him tear them to shreds with their claims.

Claude. 'Liz, you change your mind to suit your ambitions, don't you, and you didn't have a hard time at school. They gave you special lessons and you pretended otherwise. So, what are your core beliefs?'

Claude. 'Rishi, you authorised billions of pounds under your watch to dubious companies during the pandemic, and you can't be bothered asking for it back. That's not financial responsibilty, is it?'

In my 65 years, I've never known the country to be in such a bad state, and listening to those two leaves me dumbfounded. We really are screwed if they consider themselves fit to run the country.

Wrote off the debt of third world countries.
Record investment in the NHS
record investment in schools
Record investment in police
Introduction of minimum wage
Civil Partnerships
Good Friday Agreement
Devolution in Scotland / Wales / Northern Ireland
Equality Act
Human Rights Act
New Deal

The Blair Labour Government achieved a lot of 'big' legislation that benefitted the population unlike the Conservatives when they get into power.

Piss poor indictment of the political system. Parachuting lads into constituencies that they have no feel for, no connection to, just so they can propel their own interests.

Two political reforms I would make that would improve politics immediately

a) If you are a cabinet minister or a member of the payroll you are relieved of your constituency duties, that role is given to a nominated person within the local party area. It is madness that been an MP is considered a full time job, but you can do chancellor of the exchequer on the side. Or vice versa.

b) You have to have intrinsic links to the constituency that you represent. For instance, you have to have grown up in the area or at least lived in the area for a minimum of 4 years before been eligible to run as an MP. Running high profile candidates that couldn't give a fuck about the place they represent is one the worst aspect of the parliamentary system. Speaking as someone who has had local MPs and celebrity MPs, the latter are a curse.
Our "local" MP was appalling.

Ben Wallace comes out in favour of Truss...

"Now then wannabe cabinet member, what was it that first attracted you to the likely winner?"

And Truss promises Northern Powerhouse Rail in full, i.e. new lines into Liverpool and Leeds rather than on existing lines Liverpool to Warrington and Marsden to Leeds.

Now that was in a hustings in - wait for it - Leeds.

If she has a magic money tree for every venue, and will still cut taxes, we'll be paying for this leadership contest for generations to come.

‘Anything but the Tories’.

Feel for you, mate. No way was I wasting precious time listening to these fuckwits.

Ben Wallace is a sensible chap and knows which side his bread is buttered.

Sounded a little flustered this morning during interview on Sky, almost as if he didn’t believe what he was saying.
