My first match was in the 1973-74 season and the manager was Ron Saunders. My first game was Newcastle at home and we won 2-1 but Tony Book soon replaced Saunders after he was sacked during Easter I think.

Mel Machin and my first game was at Maine road when Oldham beat us 4-1 in the 2nd game of the season to leave us bottom of the league in division 2 (we finished 2nd behind Chelsea that year!)
