it's a little bit awkward but seems difficult to fault.

i was taught a simple method...

if you can replace the word with him then whom should be used.
i.e. do you want him in goal this sunday?
(not, do you want he in goal this sunday?)

if you can replace the word with he then who should be used.
i.e. do you think he will start?
(not, do you think him will start?)

I'm actually surprised he left, although it has been rumoured for a while he wanted out. 31 is still young for a keeper. Something must have gone on behind the scenes.

I sense a change of direction from the manager.
We have struggled playing out of the back for some time and teams have worked out how to press us more effectively.
Maybe Pep sees the goalkeeper’s role differently now and no longer values feet above shot stopping. After all Trafford is also acknowledged to be better with his hands than his feet.
