I agree that this assertion is very suspect... It has been proven to be nurture? What research are you sighting peoffrey?

I ask because as an economist/econometrist, I would find it very, very, very difficult to prove cultural/familial causality for something like sexual preference. And there is a simple reason: homosexual people come from all family situations, socioeconomic statuses, races, religions, and geographic areas. How would one go about proving one or two permutations lead to a person choosing to partake in homosexuals acts?

I believe the current scientific understanding is that it is a born predisposition just like heterosexuality.

Not that I disagree that it CAN BE a decision, just as deciding to have sex with a member of the same sex even though you are generally not sexually attracted to them is a choice (as is the opposite). But to go from it potentially being a choice to it always being a choice is quite the leap. If that is true, have we proven heterosexuality is a choice?

Anyway, I wish there was a high profile footballer that would come out so others could feel confident to do so.

There are several but they play in obscure leagues. Mario Gomez gave a strong hint last year that several members of the German national team are gay and that they would be fully supported in Germany if they came out, and Angela Merkel backed him.

I would like to know when he did that? Because as much as I know he did not.

In the net and in homophil forums there is a lot of homoerotic stuff if it means football players. In Germany there is a bulge-forum etc. mainly visited by gays where they collect pictures of football stars - especially German ones - where there even is some naked photos etc. And there is speculations - especially after a participant of a model show has told that she once was booked as "girlfriend" for a football star.

The speculation lately goes more in the Reus - Götze - Schürrle area - Gomez is often mentioned, too.

I always find this choice argument amusing, and wonder at it.

If one believes that people "choose" to be gay, then one must also believe that people "choose" to be straight. I didn't "choose" to be straight; it is what comes naturally to me. Therefore I can only assume that someone who says sexuality is a choice and people can "choose" to be gay, or not, is struggling with their own sexuality.
