Why are we not bossing games?

This may sound like an arrogant statement but I can't believe given the investment and the star quality squad we have (arguably the best) that we are not bossing and dictating games
Yesterday was like a recurring bad dream from so many games last season.

This was a common trait last term, start the game slowly, (Why?) start the second half slowly (why?), gain a bit of control and then bang the cohesion vanishes in an instant. Why can't we put games to bed?
This didn't just happen against the top5 it happen in a few of the other games to, i know games can ebb and flow but we seem incapable of controlling one.

Even more galling and gut wrenching yesterday was that Vidic, Ferdinand and Carrick went off at half time and we capitulated like a mid table side frightened like scared rabbits.

I'm prepared for flak but I can only see us competing for a top4 place this season.

That was one game we weren't ready for. But last season we did pretty good didn't we?

the op is right, there were very few games that we got by the scruff of the neck last season and overran the opponents. it really should be happening a lot more. the players are in the top bracket of their postion and should show more understanding of the style of play and the expected movement of team-mates and themselves.

its a puzzle!

We are short of a player who dictates how a game is played. Despite the quality in the squad we have only dominated a handful of matches. The lack of consistency in that area is a little worrying. David Silva is world-class in the last quarter, Yaya needs to throw his weight and expertise around a bit more between each penalty area. Perhaps one of the two or three players Mancini talks of, will be that piece of the jigsaw.

Yes we did but what i'm trying to point out is Im at a loss to understand why we can't boss and occasionally thrash some sides. Maybe it's the system I don't know

Inter were three weeks behind us in pre-season. Plus they were bereft of first choice players. Plus many of their players played the day before against Celtic.

i dont buy into this "one more player" line, it is down to the understanding of how we should approach a team and break down their play effectively. dont get me wrong, a nasri or sneijder would be most welcome, but there is no chance a player will arrive at the club and instantly change the way we play, in fact it would probably change his style of play!!

maybe bob is being to complex in his tactics and bombarding the players with too much info, as we all know some footballers are indeed thicker than pig shit!

Wrong. Yesterday our passing was atrocious. I'd wager it'll be different story come the start of the season.

Yep. This is because when one of our players gets the ball, our other players don't work hard to move into space to be passed the ball in. So the player on the ball has an option of keeping the ball (too many touches are never good) or going for passes that are too low in winning percentage for us, like a long ball for example.

Plus we don't harrass opposing teams to get the ball back. We sit and let them have possession.

We'll never boss games when we play like this.

Toure looked worryingly unfit considering the season starts in 6 days.

Wonder what Mancini has been doing with them fitness wise. Probably been running them into the ground all day for a month

The reason is because our squad is not yet a team..

We are getting there and games like the one v Inter are one of the examples.

Yesterday we had an off day. Everyone has them. the scum had some awful games last year and still got results.
We soon will be able to do the same thing, play awful yet still do well.
A team mentality cannot be bought, we have the spirit and the characters but not yet the mentality although they may have them individually are yet to collect it together. That is what Mancini will deal with this season.

i had the misfortune of having to watch yesterdays game with 3 rags, the thing that surprised me was that at half time they all commented on how we bullied the rags and just out muscled them. from my point of view i couldn't see it. i thought they had been the better of the two teams but that we had taken our chances.

With the level of investment we have had, our control, pace and style isn't what it should be. Tired, unprepared, whatever, we got hammered from the 1st min to the 90th and as professionals, it's gotta hurt the lads.

3 or 4 more signings must be made this month or maybe try and use players like bellamy
