Why Can't City Win Without Yaya

When Yaya plays we have no control in the midfield.

Xabi Alonso would have been perfect for us, someone who can dictate the play from deep.
We won two titles from centre midfield with yaya by far the best there in the country! I hope the above is either sarcasm or comedy - if not i despair

Actually meant it to say when Yaya doesn't play

Because every other replacement midfielder requires two touches to control it and an extra two to three seconds to decide what to do with it. The only time we have played one-touch football since he departed was during the first ten minutes at Chelsea.

Extend his contract, double his pay and promise him a coaching role. That should do it.
I just hope he wins tomorrow or he'll be in a right mood!

It's wrong to rely heavily on one player but we do you can see that Silva and nazri look for yaya all the time, yaya can be frustrating at times but he makes us tick, it is going to be very hard to replace him , it will be the managements biggest job.

10 yards from goal..

Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Shoot from bad angle hit post. Pass. Clear chance to score but Pass. Pass and Pass. Lose the ball.

Will anyone shoot the damn ball when we have a chance?

Yaya fucking does.

And let's not even touch on the topic of corners. Enough said about that already.

I thought we had a fine series of corners from the 83rd minute to the last one we took. But what bemuses me is the fact that from about the 75th minute, and down by a goal or two, we seem to exhibit the kind of urgency that CFC, The Swamp Donkeys and The Dippers demonstrate from the fuckin' warm up!!

Because hes the only Midfielder that wants to move forward and get involved in and around the box.. Dino and Nando get a nose bleed if going near the edge of the box, Silva and Navas are reluctant to shoot at goal and the fact Milner scored his 1st premier goal yesterday in 30 odd games tells you about his scoring prowess..

When all our strikers where injured the midfielders where forced to have a go and we seen a difference in Silva in front of goal

It's because he is the heartbeat of the team. He keeps us ticking over, always makes himself available and forces teams to come out and mark him or he'll kill you...either with the pass or the shot.

Whenever we get into these games, he is the conductor of the rotation and space in front of him. He is constantly bringing other players into the game and pulling defenders and defensive midfielders around. Silva, and especially Nasri, LOVE playing with him, because he makes them better players and takes the load off them allowing them to move and make more opportunities for themselves and others.

Very perceptive.

We've got too many midfielders who don't score any goals, the balance isn't right, especially when we aren't gettingany goals from our defenders due to our shocking setpieces. Between Milner, Nasri and Navas, they've played about 60 premier league games this year and that one Milner freekick is the only goal to show for it. Whenever we work it in down the flanks, it's all too obvious that we have no one in the middle. Without Yaya, we are essentially relying solely on our strikers for goals.

Nobody else is truly comfortable with the ball at their feet...Yaya makes time, if the pass isn't on he keeps the ball and isn't afraid of loosing it...the rest treat the ball like a hot potato....best player in the team by a country mile.....watch silva go again once Yaya is back.

No sure if this is already a topic but if so just merge it. Can someone please explain why we can't win lately without Yaya in our team
Because we've spent £79m on players to support him in central midfield who can't play without him holding their hand.

When we had Barry and de Jong they didn't need Yaya there to guide them through games, they had the boldness to play themselves and play they did.
Barry only really had bad games when he played two big games within a few days of each other, the rest of the time he was spot on. And de Jong was the best communicator this squad has had since the takeover, he was always organising and motivating teammates on the pitch, and he always wanted the ball and always kept it blue. Look at his performances for Holland between 2010-2012 - exemplary - in the 2012 Euros he was Holland's best player.

It was time to move them both on as it was time to get better players in support of Yaya as we needed to take that next step up as a squad but we bought Rodwell García and Fernando who are worse players and Fernandinho who is excellent when Yaya is there but inconsistent when he's not (some excellent performances but also some where his impact on the game is zero).

None of these players take(/took) responsibility in central midfield and there is absolutely no communication from them.

YaYa is the only City midfielder who will run at the opposition and the only City midfielder to shoot given the chance.
Cast your mind back to the Hull game (sorry if it hurts) but Nasri had a great opportunity in the Hull box in the first half but decided to try to beat two more defenders before shooting. Even the TV commentators were calling for his to shoot first time instead of "going for the perfect goal".

I've bought the biggest cake tin I could find, just need a 10-ton lorry to deliver the flour. And then a jumbo jet to fly it over to the UK.

Cos he's in Africa

Thank you Sherlock Holmes, I know Yaya's in Africa for African Cup of Nations. If you couldn't tell by other answers of other people I mean't why can't we win without him in our midfield. The question is not literal it's a tactical question. And yes he's just finished his campaign in Equatorial Guinea playing with Ivory Coast and the won the tournament on pens 9-8 against Ghana.

Yaya has the ability to thread thread passes through to the likes of Silva in the hole and he also links up well with Zabba making those runs behind the full back. Fernandinho has taken on this roll since Yaya has been away but he struggles to find the right pass.

The other problem this season is that teams are finding a way to frustrate us by getting well organised and defending deeper thus leaving very little space between the defence line and the goalkeeper. I know this is a dangerous game plan but it's making it difficult to get our attacking players goal side which is our strength. On many occasions we're limited to shooting from outside the box, which is not something we like to do too often.

They need to find away of drawing the opposition defence to a higher line to create the space behind.

As yet Fernando has given us nothing to let us understand why we bought him, Fernandinho is a shadow of last year's player, Nasri has been out injured, David Silva has been injured and isn't in anything like his best form, Lampard can't play too long too often, Jesus Navas is in good form now but has had a rocky spell and James Milner has been playing well. Sergio is back from injury but not in good form and Edin has started one match since October. Stevan Jovetic has been injured a fair bit but has also disappointed. Vinnie has been poor by his very high standards. We don't need all our "big" players to come off at the same time but we need at least one of them to be on his game. At the moment none of them are up to the mark, and so with Ya Ya in Africa our ability to control the pace and direction of games has gone completely - for the time being.

With or without Yaya, City still have Football Superiority over the other PL teams including Chelsea.
The stats attest to that.

The Question that should be asked is why City couldn't win given that we outplayed the teams mostly including Chelsea at SB.

The answer might lies in

Chelsea made a change. They improved their GK.

Fernando and dino would work in CL but not in epl where you need attack minded /visionary cm especially if ure looking for a win .

That's really funny I'm sure that we beat Stoke last week................................ was Ya Ya playing in that match or did my eyes deceive me and we had eleven or so other players on the pitch because he wasn't even there!!!

City are not a one man team. Be it YaYa, Aguero or any other player. Football is a team game.
