Why do you hate Everton?

Haha I dream of being hunted down like a dog by Pam.

Took the main piece down because I had a nagging feeling it essentially amounted to shit-stirring on my behalf...and then DSOB came right in and unintentionally played on that paranoia. Normally I wouldnt be arsed (because the large majority of Cutter readers are blues who know the score) but I contacted a guy at the Guardian this evening and asked him to have a look at the Cutter so - with the first reaction to it being DSOB's scathing critique ha - I decided it was best to pull the article. Feel shit on my bluenose mate though who wrote the Everton side of things.

Which means you get front page mate :) As it should be.

Fucks sake man, talk about over-reacting! It's down. Gone. An evenings work plus the fact that I'd made the whole weekend issue a City v Everton Special.
Plus the article from your fellow bluenose.
Taken down because you guilt-tripped me. The idea that someone would read this weekend's Cutter and go out tomorrow and batter an oppo fan is nonsensical mate. But I'm not having that thought playing through my mind all the same.

The fact is that there IS a bitter rivalry between the two clubs where once there was a grudging respect for two teams each in the shadow of their big bad red neighbours. The article merely reflected that and treated the readers as grown-ups.

Taken down because an Everton fan 'guilt tripped' you, or because you saw sense?

Believe it or not, most of us don't hate each other, and certainly not the mature fans who've had a good relationship over the years. I'm not sure how insighting the younger fans to start doing it now will benefit anybody. Most Everton fans have more to worry about than City's riches, and most City fans are too busy pinching themselves and thinking about what could be to notice our predicament.

If you want to know why many fans, regardless of club, took a slight dislike to City, it was the attitudes of some of your shall we say 'less tactful' fans. It had little to do with the money from a jealousy perspective.

You went from a decent club with average history, to a decent club who were rich, but instead of waiting until you had won a few trophies, some of your fans let it go to their heads, and disrespected other teams with dilusions of grandeur unseen before in football.

It was the equivalent of an average guy winning a guitar, and a recording contract, and then telling everybody he was a rock star before he'd even sold a record.

Youre still to achieve significant success, but anybody would think you were Barcelona, or Manchester United the way some of your fans go on.

That, is why other clubs like to beat you. The fact you have money isn't the underlying issue.

Having the money is great, but you still have to win things. The Lescott saga wasn't handled well, but most Everton fans are long over that one.

Having said that, folks are individuals, and all have their own opinions on things. I can only speak for myself at the end of the day, and I don't have a problem with City lads, even if there are a few numpties on forums just like every other club has, including ours.

Well; I am treating that as an apology.

One big mistake though DSOB.

We are/were/and always will be a fantastic Club with a fantastic history.

When the money came it cant be a suprise if some of us got carried away. I for one, pinch myself everyday; and the fact is whenever I speak to supporters of other clubs they seem genuinely pleased for us.

It only seems to be "The Usual Suspects" of Villa, Spurs and Everton who differ from that.

Dont know why you seem to think that its the 'younger' fans who feel such vitriol towards Everton. Of all the posters who have written on this thread that I know a bit about most are 30+ including myself (not the 'new' fan you insinuated. Been following City for nearly 30 years).

Told my bluenose mate that his article - that explained why he and other bluenoses hate City - has been pulled and he summed it up perfectly. Said it was merely 'blue on blue' banter. We're grown ups DSOB. We can acknowledge that there is genuine dislike nowadays between the two clubs without going out and battering someone.

I guess it depends on how old the guy is who tells the next guy he is young. I'm well in to my 40's, so I guess I look upon a 30 year old as a whipper snapper as they say.

I don't have a problem with you or your blog LT, but your article, and even this thread truth be told, especially on the eve of a match was slightly irresponsible and 'in your own words', nothing more than shit stirring, which is actually a great summary.

The fact that you removed it at least shows me you have some degree of ethics to which I appreciate. The article that remains is actually a much better article.

Good luck for the match, and have a nice weekend mate.

-- Sat Sep 24, 2011 3:04 am --

I think the fact that I said 'decent' was respectful enough ;o)

I still think you have a long way to go before you can talk about being fantastic. Liverpool and United unfortunately have that one sewed up between them, and the latter seem to be getting better rather than worse.

I think we'll take points from all three of you yet again though, as this could well be a great year for Everton.

Good luck.

have to agree on the bitterness being exaggerated by both sets of fans. no-one hates fulham, wigan, norwich fans with the same intensity as they do not see them as their enemies in many ways. scousers / mancs will always have a rivalry but deep down as people share the same outlooks- music , politics, fashion.

i hope no serious outbreaks of violence happen at our games due to spiteful comments by a moyes or an osman. i live amongst so many different fans here in the south but do i hate any of them, not really. they just make me laugh with their lack of football knowledge. they do not represent their clubs any more than most internet warriors do !!

every so often on here there seems a thread on how much you hate scousers and it normally goes with the cliched views of candlelit vigils, city of self pity, bitter , dippers themes. you must find it hard to differentiate a kopite from an evertonian. yes we are bitter, but its very tongue in cheek as is most of our humour. it's why ilike to drink in manchester, the people are similar and long as you show respect you can have a great time.

Nothing will happen. Its just the usual bluster from internet warriors, I heard it before the derby last season, about how these old United hooligans were coming out of retirement, to start a ruck, or how if Onouha plays for City again, he'll get booed, and abused. I was at Goodison Park last season (sat in the home end), and it did not feel like a derby or rivalry atmosphere at all, there was no discernable tension in the air. Give it a few years, and no one will care.

I don't, in fact I have a sort of empathy towards them in as much as they had to put up with as much shit from their neighbours when they were dominant in 80s as we have had to do with rags during last 2 decades. In fact the real problems if you can call it that has only been the ruck over the signing of Lescott.

If you get the chance, watch the game today. That'll answer the question in the thread title. Awful football from them.

and listen to the bitter managers classless interview after. So predictable
