Why doesn't the bible mention dinosaurs?

Depends on the weapons (nukes aren't my strong point, though I seem to think Skashion is pretty up on his military stuff), though I can't see the radiation lasting for longer than 100 years to a fatal limit.

The idea is that they dust blown up into the atmosphere would block out the Sun for a little while, but when it started settling after a few years, the light that did get through would be enough to create the greenhouse effect, which would melt the CO2 ice caps, thickening the atmosphere a bit, resulting in further greenhouse effects, which would in turn melt the frozen water, making the atmosphere a bit more hospitable. It would need to be managed correctly, and obviously it's only theoretical, but there aren't too many reasons why it wouldn't work.

So it's a bit like you're triggering the effect with vast quantities of energy so that it can sustain itself. As oppose to us constantly monitoring and adding things into the system (like with the plantlife idea) to make it hospitable.

As for radiation. On the basis you can go on tours of Chernobyl (though not live there as of yet) it is possible it will have died down significantly enough I suppose. I imagine there'd be a time limit on how long you could stay there, in good health, initially though.

Hmmm food for thought.

EDIT: I'm down with the Boyz from the Dwarf.
Good stuff.

I'm also quite partial to a bit of Lister and Rimmer ;)

That's because humanity has a large guilt complex built in that likes us to think that we are somehow evil, inferior and small.

In reality, we are by far the most successful animal ever to inhabit this planet, and the chances of us EVER going extinct before the end of the Universe is slim. Space travel, which should be a real reality in a couple of hundred years, gives us the opportunity to live forever.

Nature isn't a force, it doesn't have a personality, the adjustments that they are talking about will be fixed by greater production of food and resources.

I'm not saying that the argument I quoted is necessarily correct, we will never know but I do have some affinity with it. You are quite right about the human guilt complex; it is probably what influenced religious teachings in the first place. However, although I live in hope I think space travel will not be the saviour; travelling at the speed of light is theoretically impossible and given the unimaginable distances involved it is accepted that anything less than this will not lead to colonisation elsewhere. I'm certainly no physicist and could be wrong but taking the pessimistic view means we should enjoy it now!

This "guilt complex" isn't natural. It's born out of the will to control. To control people you need to make them need you. Making people feel evil/guilty and fearful is your best ticket. Religions that have done this are the most successful today, but the same principle is the root of all abusive relationships (whether it be BF/GF, man/wife, father/son Priest/child, government/society etc.).

Nukes are definitely a bad idea as the radiation from nuclear fragments will hang around far too long and will continue knocking out neutrons and affecting DNA.
A much better idea is diverting asteroids or comets which would achieve the objective of putting dust into the atmosphere and have the added benefit of introducing more Water.

Take the time to watch this,it explains (for me,anyway) in laymans terms how everything came from nothing, much better than some celestial being fucking about with us.
I would also like to see Damo's thoughts on it.

fascinating stuff...watched it all and it was funny as well as thought provoking.

We are indeed insignificant and, just like the dinosaurs, doomed. Enjoy it while you can lads and lasses.

Glad you liked it,if only science was taught like that in schools.
