our away support is the worst it has been in all the time i have been going, although cost is obviously a factor.

How long have you been going ?

Early 90's and before we often had shite away support, including taking about 30 to Selhurst Park for a night game against Wimbledon (one of the lowest top flight crowds ever).

Are you going to Sunderland ? If so enjoy it, and stop worrying about others.

Too many people can no longer afford all these games.

not worried at all, its a forum about city.

the wimbledon game was edghills debut, it's fair to say there was more than 30 city fans at selhurst park that night, a 1-0 defeat., but i guess that was tongue in cheek.

It was (though it was pretty shite support that night), but my point was our away support is not the worst you have ever known, is it ?

we used to have a good following in the dark days, places like villa park we used to have a regular 5000 travelling, we now struggle to sell 3 thousand anywhere.

the worst i remember was the spurs game at white hart lane after we lost the cup game in 1994, not many there that night, and also a sky game at chelsea.

you are right cost is the killer.

That Monday night Sky game at Chelsea was a dreadful bollock-freezing 0-0 draw, just over 10,000 in Stamford Bridge that night.

Yeah it is, we weren't being asked for £30-£50 then though. I've started to ration where I go, down to what I have to pay. I'd have done Sunderland (500 mile round trip) had I not been working, whereas Fulham can shove it despite being a short journey for me. If I go its 2 tickets, and £100 for Fulham is a pisstake. I took my wife for a Spa day out, we had nearly the whole day there, plus a reasonable meal too, and I had change from what the 2 tickets for Fulham would have cost me.

fulham away is a disgrace, as was tottenham, utd and chelsea.

it's as if clubs dont want away fans, but they ae so much the fabric of the game.

when you think back to going to notts county with about 13000 away fans, stoke etc, those days will never return and that is sad.

the best games for me at COMS are when the south stand is full of away fans, ie cup games, it adds more flavour to the occasion, most grounds are just so sterile now.

i guess it says more about modern football that while we are on the verge of 4th spot 2700 tickets at sunderland is now a big ask, even at 27 quid, yet under keegan 6000 would travel to swindon and the like.

Sadly I think a number of clubs don't want away fans, and these same clubs don't want your average fan either, they just want the corporates that will pay top dollar and if they get their wish it will eventually kill football, however I and many others will not be ripped off any more.

To put Fulham into context, Schalke away last year, cost me just over half the cost of the Fulham game, and that included minibus, petrol, ferry, a few hours in a hotel room (not enough as I remember) and 2 tickets. OK, we pulled a little scam to keep costs down, but in the end it cost a little over half of what Fulham wanted for 2 tickets.
