Why have the media not slaughtered Spurs?

They've spent just as much, possibly more, than City this window but apparently they aren't "ruining football" and "causing mayhem".

Could it be something to do with not wanting to upset dear sweet clean as a whistle 'nine-bob note' Harry?
I would say that the extreme Southern bias in English sports journalism is the reason for this discrepancy. It is quite prominent and has become worse over the years.
That and they love Harry the bung giver.

For the record , I actually like City .
We've always had a lot in common as teams , and had to work hard for what we have , whilst in the shaddows of our bigger sisters .
As a salesman for a company , I spent most of my day in and around Manchester for about 3 years out of 8 of that particular job , and drove past Maine Rd about 20 times daily . I spent 12 hours a day chatting to both red and blue be it customers or general banter , and never was I rediculed for being an Everton fan ; at least not nastily .

When City put one up United last year twice , I was thrilled ... honestly .

Yes , since the start of the prem , money has mattered , and it would be cool for another team to get amongst the pickings , but all I'm saying is simply how good it would be to be able to do it without going daft .
£30+ mill for Robby was bad enough , but other teams have spent that before you so not extortionate , but don't lose grip on reality by buying players like Kaka etc for rediculous sums . There are plenty of others that can win it for you .

Total cost of EFC about £26 mill :o)

Am not having a pop, you seem a very reasonable guy but didnt Yakubu and falani (sorry for the spelling) cost that combined?

Also not trying to be a bum chum but i have a soft spot for Everton mostly for the reasons you said for City and i have mates who are toffies aswell so i do like you to do well.

I don't doubt you. I'm just enjoying having a decent debate on here without it spiralling into a tirade of expletives and who's got the hardest Dad competition ;-)

If you win something , you gain revenue . Teams deserve to be able to spend that , but having a money man cut out the hard work ( and I'm not just picking on City ) should be stopped .
Football has never...ever....been idealistic in this way. It's starting to sound like you have a chip on your shoulder about the lack of finances at Goodison and would prefer that the rules were re-written to accomodate Everton....which, I'm sure, isn't the case.

Nah .
Seriously , if you look on our site , I've said the same about not wishing the same on Everton .

Football is seriously out of control at the moment , and whether TV is mainly responsible for that who's to say . Just make sure all the redirection at the club doesn't distract team from staying up . If you went down , and you're really not safe ( only 6 points ) then it would certainly be interesting to see how your money would get you back up .

See what happens next year .

I just want to say that people are exaggerating all this talk about clubs spending like crazy issue. Back in the 90's italian clubs like parma and lazio used to spend 30-35 millions on players that are not even half as good as robinho for instance (crespo, ortega....) and it was ok.

Whats happening right now in england is normal IMO. The premier league is the most watched league in the world, the revenues is much much bigger than what serie A used to get back in the 90's and still the PL is expanding even more which in return means more revenues to the clubs ( i just read an article that suggest that by 2010-11 season the T.V revenues alone would hit a billion and 150 mil euros for a season) so the EPL is on the safe side IMO.

As for Kaka's deal, i think the talk about the 90 mil that city would spent is big but not Unrealistic. Remember madrid paid for zidane 75 mil euros 8 years ago. So 8 years later and an extra 15 mil is not a unrealistic specially if you consider that zidane was 29 year old back then and kaka is 26 now.

Watch this summer when madrid's new president will pay 80-90 mil euros for kaka and no one in media will say anything about this. I think there is a clear double standard in this issue specially from the media and from some football fans.
