There must be some reason why Capello doesn't play him,I mean, he's been around the game long enough to know what he is looking for.
I'd say tactical awareness or positioning, but Micah has improved so much with both these over the past 2 seasons or so, and he's no worse at these now than Cole is at left back. Coupled with his physical strength, pace and aerial ability, then ???
Without slating Capello, who surely must know his stuff, I genuinely can't see a valid reason for not playing him. Yes, Jagielka can play there, Jones too probably, but it's a bit of a slap in the face to be looked over in favour of centre backs playing out of position, then possibly a youngster too in Walker.
I can only think that he doesn't want 2 attacking full backs away from home, and that whilst to the media he claims he wants to win, in the back of his mind it is all about avoiding defeat tomorrow.
Still, given all that and putting blue shades away for a while, Micah is still the outstanding candidate to me. Walker looks promising, sure, but no more than that at this stage. Jagielka will give you solidarity, but to me he often looks one dimensional at full back. Jones is a good footballer and could probably do the job, but why risk it when Micah is comfortable in that position?
The Cleverley call up for prior games does perplex me completely though. I could be proven completely wrong, but he just doesn't look good enough. Not in United's team, not in the England team. I know one guy who is familiar with one of the United coaches and he is of the same impression, could well be a fix 'er up and sell 'er on jobbie. Mentioned in the same way as Chadwick and Gillespie - good, but not great. Jonjo Shelvey probably looks a better player imho. I don't think we should start playing the 'biased England/Scum' card though, I think it's more a point of laziness - oh, he's in their team and they won the league, so he must be good enough, despite not actually playing at all until a month ago - and of believing the hype that inevitably surrounds anyone English with an unfamiliar name who plays well against an MLS team in pre-season, thus becomng the next Gazza, until they either fail to meet expectations or crumble under them and are hung out to dry, or never measure up because of a lack of ability and are hung out to dry minus the extra gossipy stories.
