Thought perhaps I was hearing things as I watched the game today, but as Tevez sliced a pass badly it was met by the small time booing from the joke fans, then it sounded like they were doing the `oooh ooh ooh` Chimp monkey chant that we hear from the `lower` continent like Turkey etc, hav`nt a clue why but then began to think would this sort of stuff happen if there were more officials from `ethnic` backgrounds, can only remember one I think Asian Linesman at a Prem game, and for years played football myself but never ever saw one single coloured official, yet I would guestimate Football in general has perhaps 20 to 30% of players who are Black, and maybe more in proffesional leagues..... So why do`nt these people want to put something back into the game that they obviously love so much... Just a thought.

Possibly similar reasons as to why so few black managers yet so many black footballers.

It's because refereeing brings enough abuse as it is when you're white, let alone coloured. Professional refs have usually started really young (teens normally) and from game one have been the target of abuse from morons on the pitch and on the sideline, and that never really goes away as you move up the leagues. You have to have a really thick skin as an official.
Add in being black or Asian and you're really going to face some very personal, nasty abuse for years before you get close to making it to professional status. So we do have coloured officials starting out on the ladder but I imagine like me they give up when the weight of all the personal abuse gets too much.

I was always wondering why there's so few UK born Asian origin players... I don't live there but I guess there is already generation of young Asians who are born there and live and breath football like all other Brittish.

Yet, for a life of me, I can't remember any player with Pakistani or Indian origin.

Are they on the stands as fans? Or they're still not in football completely?
