Why No Celtic v Braga Champs League on TV?

When Aberdeen and Dundee United were dominant in Scotland in the 80s the OF crowds were frequently down to 15k or less, they're no more or less loyal than any other bunch of fans.

i thought it would be on got £20 on Celtic to win, watch it on pc, IRAQ GOALS after the city game

Burnley,Wigan,Hull all get 10 times the tv dosh the old firm get.
How the fuk can Scottish teams compete.
Fuk me,a relegated club from the prem gets, what £50m,is that correct.
Still,Celtic's record v English clubs aint too bad,is it.

Scottish football>>>>>>>Unibond League

Not quite that bad, but getting there. It's one of the many leagues in Europe badly affected by the continual flow of sky tv money into the English game. The driving up of transfer fees and wages, and more pertinently, how that filters down the league structure. There was a story that Marouane Fellaini was watched by Celtic and ear-marked at the 4 million quid mark, then Everton came in and he became a 12 million quid player overnight. When that is happening, the ability of Old Firm clubs to bring in talented foreigners is really restricted to a lower pool of players - and that is now being borne out in the level of the football. What it means for all the other teams that don't pull 50,000 fans every home game is horrific when comes to the standard of the imports.

But, back on point, I'm sure if someone was willing to meet Celtic's price then it would have been on the box. From their point of view, the difference between selling it cheap and having the drop off in attendance for a game they were 3-0 down, probably made sense to blank it out. Personally I would have loved to see Celtic get pumped out of Europe.

I worked in Scotland for 3 years 18 months ago and watched a lot of games and it was poor to say the least Although the fans from both sides of the old firm belive that they would compete in the prem Not only compete but be in the top 6

I realy could not see it .

The game is free for all season ticket holders, LOOK AT LAST YEAR WHEN THEY DESERTED the sinking ship, Faithful through and through I THINK NOT, They follow our neighbours all aboard when going well then disappear it troubled times, What more would you expect from a bunch of rebels.

What a shocking post from an ignorant wee scroat. Shows you how much you know about anything!

You'll find when things are going tits up at any club people vote with their feet. I can recall going to CoMS even 3/4 years ago when Blues played to crowds of 32,000 under Stuart Pearce when Corradi and Dickov led the front line.

"Follow our neighbours" What? So i'm a Rag? Do one. "a bunch of rebels" WTF. Like they say, you can't educate a moron. Do some research before coming on here spouting a load of shite. 26 posts just about sums you up for me.

As I've said loads on here, they would compete - without question - due to the amount of investment they would receive. It would not be the players who are playing for the OF just now who would be first choice for Rangers or Celtic in the EPL.

-- Thu Aug 05, 2010 8:16 am --

I truly believe Scottish football is on its arse, and unless something drastic happens it will become even worse. By drastic I don't mean splitting the top 6 from the bottom after xmas, (would love some of what that committee was smoking that day), I mean something like allowing the Old Firm to come into the conference and work their way up. If they are as good as they think, they would be in the prem in 5 seasons straight, however my inkling is they would struggle to make the Championship top ten. Taking the OF out would give the other less big clubs like Aberdeen, Motherwell etc a chance to get CL football, thus making more money for those clubs and Scottish football as a whole.

I think the "something drastic" may be happening just now with the lack of money in the game up here.

This is meaning that more & more teams are having to bring through young players & sell them on. This may not be great for the domestic league, but should help our National team in the long run. I also think that the gap between the OF & the rest is getting smaller every year, so more competition can only be a good thing. (I do realise that this is due to the OF getting worse rather than anything else)

Rangers and Celtic are huge clubs, i didn't realise just how big they are until i lived up there for a decade.
The problem for them is that more than a few sides in the SPL aren't even championship standard and that drags them down.
