Why So Blue?

I am not down at all, we are missing some of our best players at the moment and we are still winning games, and to think they all have to come back just as the rest of the league starts to tire.

The Premier League may not be the best league but it's bloody competitive and even more so than it was before, so it's never going to be plain sailing all the way to the finish, i am quite confident we will get out of our group in the CL as well, I really can't understand all the negativity on here

Me suggesting he's a defensive liability and that translating to me not thinking he's worth his place in the team is some leap of logic mate.

I've stated he doesn't work in a midfield 2. I've pointed out clear reasons, based around his lack of defensive input (with video evidence) for this.

I'd definitely play him a central 3 with the Ferns. No doubt about that and I don't know what you've read in my posts that would make you think otherwise.

i did say maybe mate as you were so vociferous in your opinion, but in essence we agree yaya not in a two like wednesday, how we accommodate him further forward is the debate in a fully fit squad, as billy pointed out the last time it was the two ferna's and yaya in front, we got dicked at spurs!

Exactly. We're top of the league.

I do not think anyone thinks Yaya in a two is perfect but it is a case of weighing up the positives against the negatives. If we move him forward, who are we going to drop? Silva, De Bruyne, Sterling?

Also the role Yaya performs, collecting the ball from the back four, and linking the play is a role beyond the Ferns. Neither have the range of passing, the speed of thought or the confidence to influence the speed and rhythm of the game.

Spurs was a case in point, from memory. There seemed to be a lot of long balls and two much back to front play. The conduit for our play was not picking the ball up as frequently of the defence.

In a game like last night, where we needed a win, Pellers was correct to be brave. It is his philosophy and one shared by the club. Losing an offensive player to accomodate an additional midfielder was not the correct step.

For all our failings we conceded one and Yaya arguably set up both goals. He has also played that position (within a two) and scored 20 plus goals not too far behind the amount we have conceded. It is a big step to lose that.

Away games in Barca, Bayern, Real even Seville the argument for an additional midfielder is more acute. Still if we did go down that route I would want Yaya in a 4-3-3 rather than pushed forward in a 4-2-3-1

Agree - shouldn't be too negative given the injuries - but the defence and the protection of the defence is a major cause for concern.
However if our brand of a more sophisticated and vastly more skilled Keeganesque side keeps winning who's to argue?

Yaya only works now if given a free role. Easier to do against the 'poorer' teams but not when up against quality. He might pull the rabbit out of the hat from time to time, less often now, but does he justify his place with a fully fit squad. I'm not sure he does.
He won't be a bench warmer without causing disruption to the team, given his past nonsense. Therefore we should thank him and try and move him on. No place for sentiment
