Absolutely.
I don't see what fergusons record from decades ago has got to do with anything. He's a complete irrelevance to our club.

The answer to the op is obvious:
If there was someone better available

Of course, always chase the next big thing and bollocks to any sort of stability. The perfect recipe for sustainable growth and success.
Yep Arsenal doing great at the moment

Count their trophies over the last 20 years and count ours. After 15 years of Wenger it may be time for a change. We've had 2 full seasons of Mancini and we have our first 2 major trophies since 1976. It's not difficult to see the positives.

The amount of money we spent on the squad and the money spent on wages are the big difference.

Ajax, Dortmund, Napoli their players earn the third of what our players earn. The biggest star of these 3 teams is maybe Cavani and he isnt getting 100.000 €/week. Imagine the others...
(And spending on transfers are also the third or less...)

Mancini has a fantastic squad still cant make it work in CL. 3 wins in 12 matches are pretty bad given the fact two of them was against a Spanish relegated side. (and Bayern reserve the third.)

He didnt have to win CL as many says. No one is talking about winning it. Small things matters in CL. Like beating Napoli at home would be enough last year.

Beating an average Ajax two times this year and keeping that lead vs.Real or beat them at home vs. 10 men. It would be enough.

In CL small things matters. This where Mancini failed at City and always failed at Inter too.

He lost in knock out stages two times with Inter on less away goals scored. Small things. Still with huge consequences.

5 Champ League campaigns, 1 QTR Final with Inter.

Just a thought....
Have a look at Ferguson's first five CL campaigns.
Now this is very interesting.

The champions league started in 92.

92/93 Leeds qualified so doesn't count.
93/94 Out on Away Goals to Galatasary in 2nd round. Never qualified for champions league.

Now this is where you automatically qualify for the groups like you do now so surely this is where to compare.

94/95 First season in group stage finished 3rd.
95/96 Blackburn qualified so doesn't count.
96/97 2nd in group. Knocked out in Semi
97/98 1st in Group. Knocked out in Quarters
98/99 2nd in Group. Winners
99/00 1st in Group, 1st in Group, knocked out in quarters.

To recap Baconfaces first 5 seasons in CL group stage

1. 3rd
2. Semi
3. Quarter
4. Winner
5. Quarter

Ah the myth of 'it takes awhile to get used to the CL'

Ferguson started managing United in 1992, when the whole of football started.

No chance Mancini won't be sacked anytime soon
Just if he doesn't win the League, end of the season .. (FA win wouldn't be enough to keep his seat)

But the question was about his CL exploits. People use the 'takes time to get used to it' argument all the time but its complete bullshit

Admittedly thats at least amusing with the 'worst English club in Europe ever', as if European football began with the Champions League.

Because they want to then get the next manager in so they can see if they can moan at everything about him regardless of all the great he's done. They'll all start predicting when hell be sacked and who we'll get next.

Then the next bloke will come in and they'll all see if they can moan at everything about him regardless of all the great he's done. They'll all start predicting when hell be sacked and who we'll get next.

Then someone else will come in and...

.....AND WHAT? Don't leave us hanging

It'd be absolutely pointless, sacking an established manager half way through the season is usually a disaster. Take one look at Chelsea right now to see how it is helping them. If his position is to be reviewed, it won't be until the end of the season, our owners are not that fickle and will assess the situation when we see how he's done. If he fails to win FA Cup or league then I think his job may be under threat more than ever before though, especially with the managers set to become available.

Ah, the old 'stability' argument.
If only all the clubs were stable and kept their management in place, they'd all win the title wouldn't they? Do you reckon maybe some managers stay long term at clubs because they are successful, not the other way round?
I'm not sold on this sustainable growth idea either - ok for other aspects of the club/ business structure - but not when it comes to the success of the first 11 - don't think football works that way always. You can't expect, sequential and steady growth, far far too many variables

Just for the rags that keep popping in from time to time
Mancini in my view is one of the worlds best club managers.
He has won the English league title, the FA cup and to some, the 'meaningless Community Shield.
He has won 3 Serie A league titles, 4 Coppa Italias with 3 different clubs, 2 Supercoppa Italiana cups.
If he can do that in just over a decade, imagine what he could do over the next decade.
How anyone can say he's not that good, like i keep hearing or he doesn't know what he's doing is beyond me, Mancini doesn't really care anyway, he's Italian. Why does he keep being compared to Fergie and others? He is relatively new to the English Game, while Fergie, has been here for over 25 years, they're both totally different. He knows what he has achieved and what he is capable of and although Fergie has won everything, Mancini (still only 48) will still be winning titles long after Fergie has gone.....
