The CHAMPIONS of the F.A cup in 2013 lost again yesterday . I hope they go down to the 3rd tier .
This could just be the end of Wigan football club .
Let's face it Wigan have shi* support and don't deserve to have a football club .
Said it on here lots of times, particularly when Wigan were in the PL. Lots of blues saying that, because of their lacklustre local support, they didn't deserve to be in the PL; nonsense. You can't blame the team for their supporters' apathy. If the team does the business on the pitch, they'll be wherever they deserve to be.

Look I live in Bradford .
And Bradford City have better support than Wigan .
I think Bradford City took more to Wembley than Wigan did in the league cup .
Let's face it when Dave Whelan leaves Wigan will fold .

There you go; you did it again. Using their (lack of) support as a stick to beat them with. Getting massive (yes, I know; *sniff*) support is no reason for a side to be in the PL . You say you live in Bradford? Presumably then, you've heard of that mob of inbreds up the road from you then? They get big support, it's doing the square root of fuck all for them at the moment. Fan numbers don't decide what level a club plays at; if it did, we would never have been in the ''real'' third division back in the dark days. It's what the side does on the pitch. And yes, I agree with you. When Dave ''the leg'' hobbles off into the subset, there's a strong likelihood that Wigan will freefall down the leagues. But that's a totally different point to their fan numbers.

Leeds don't get big support .
For a 1 town club it's sh**
But for Wigan I think the towns more bothered about Rugby League .

I give up. No point me continuing this debate with you. No matter how many times I point out that fan numbers are not a guideline for where a club plays (division-wise), you keep going back to their support.

That's what I think too. A football club is where it deserves to be through its business model and good (or bad) leadership at board and managerial levels.

What you have to remember with Wigan, there'll be loads of United Liverpool City and Everton glory hunters in that town since they are the big four clubs in the North West and the fact that Wigan were at Alty's level as recently as the 70s.

Given a few decades in the top flight I reckon a club like Wigan would gain the support of the local people but it doesn't just happen. Not like it would have back in the 1800s when there hadn't been a century of possibly deep rooted family histories of supporting another club.

Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton had the best average attendances in the Championship last season, but does that mean they deserve to be in the Premier League?

I see we're your coming from .
Wigan have done well to get we're they have in the short space of time .
It's just disappointing Wigan people don't back them .
I remember my last visit to Wigan .
The program was remembering an F.A trophy final from the 70s

Wigan got into the PL because Whelan pumped money in and managers like Steve Bruce made some very shrewd buys. If Whelan pisses off they'll not be back so let's hope he does just that. It used to irritate the hell out of me that they would only get a crowd of 15k when we played there and we'd taken 5k of those. But it's the argument that they only got there thanks to Whelan's money that could be better used against them but it's the same argument that could be applied to us and Sheikh Mansour.

Personally I don't like him or them, as a club, and it wouldn't break my heart to see them go back to the lower leagues. Whereas with a club like Coventry or Portsmouth, it does upset me that they have had really bad times thanks to wilful mismanagement. You can certainly argue whether a town like Wigan could support a PL club without Whelan's largess or whether the lack of a football history or tradition in the town makes it suitable compared to places like Burnley for instance.

I see what your saying but their support was never good enough for the top flight of English football

I can see Jim argument about how , Wigan have come from a non league club club to a top flight club in a short space of time.
Like I say what was the point of getting Wigan up to the top with no supporters .
This is we`re Jim you lose the argument .
