Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

they are not weirdos

They're proper fucking weirdos and not in a "oh aren't they a bit eccentric" way. They're just horrible weird cunts.

I look forward to her justifying this by talking about how this entanglement is just another process of healing along her journey to personal betterment.

It's mildly concerning that anyone can fall for that self righteous nonsense. I'm not sure if it shows an awful judge of character or if people simply feel hypnotised by a bit of flowery vocabulary and euphemism.

She’s never going to come out and say “I’m cock-hungry” though is she

Methinks there’s a little analysis paralysis going on here.

He made a crack about her almost shaved head, in reference to GI Jane, but it’s the height of obfuscation to suggest it had anything to do with the “strength of the character” in the movie!

He cracked a joke, Will laughed, Jada didn’t. Will got up and slapped Rock. Smith overstepped and stumbled into illegality. Rock was the bigger man and shrugged it off, even after the verbals that continued from the expensive seats.

Smith went on to win the Best Actor Award when he should not have been in the building by any normal security measure…but he’s Will Smith, this is the Oscar’s and his category hadn’t been announced yet!!!

Hollywood gave itself yet another black eye (no racist pun intended) last night…and that wasn’t the only incident!

The black female comedian picking single men out to come back stage with her was one step over the equality line, but then physically, and rather over enthusiastically, patting down Josh Brolin and Jason Mamoa was waaaay over the line!

Turn the sexes around and it’s bad enough. Turn it around, but make the races the same (black male host patting down white female leading ladies) and you have a whole other ballgame!

Hollywood hypocrisy usually knows no bounds, but Oscar 2022 has set a new bar! Entitlement, wealth, name and stature, and even race were all on show…and that show was a disaster!

I honestly couldn’t give two shits about 99% of all of that BUT if Hollywood is going constantly be “oh so righteous” about race, gender, #MeToo, and every other perceived slight in life, then it needs to take a long hard look at itself when rewatching the show. It won’t be a pretty self portrait!!!

Jim Carrey summed it up for many people…
The only descent thing about the whole shebang was that a descent feel good (if not classic) film won best movie rather than the overrated claptrap that was favourite to win. Fwiw, I thought Smith should have been bloody arrested never mind be presented with an oscar. The whole bloody family think they are a great deal better than they are imo.

My opinion for what it is worth on jokes is that nothing should be off limits, the public will decide what they find acceptable and what isn't. Times move on some people will change their opinions over that time.

Just look at Jim Davidson, Chubby Brown and Bernard Manning, they wouldn't survive today as people have changed their view on what is acceptable.

The people who truly piss me off are the ones who go to a jimmy Carr show and complain about one joke.
They are quite happy to laugh at the other 99% but the one joke offends them and they complain. totally ignoring that one of the jokes they found acceptable was offensive to someone else.

I don't blame Will Smith for being pissed off with Rock, but the way he dealt with it was 100% wrong.

He came out of it looking a right **** in my eyes.
Why should he be pissed off?. Sat in the front row/firing line, she did look like GI Jane and so what? Bloody good job that Gervais wasn't comparing or there would have been blood spilled.

Smith is a self absorbed arsehole, always has been, always will be.

My paper said yesterday that this Chris Rock person is "one of the world's best comics", and gave a selection of some of his best "jokes". Can't remember them, they were so unfunny.

If they are the best, the others must be even worse. Some people must have a strange sense of what is funny, but I guess there are those who even find Michael McIntyre amusing.

No accounting for taste.

Because many people don't think it's acceptable to take the Mick out of someone with a medical condition.

Regardless of what you and i think about Smith , losing your hair isn't a pleasant experience for any woman, unless you know someone close that this has happened to you wouldnt necesarily see this problem. It looks to me as if there are alot of people on this thread that are ignorant of this issue and the upset and pain it can cause.

put it another way presumably you would have thought it OK for Chris Rock to take the mick about her hair loss if she was undergoing chemotherapy? Same result isn't it?

I'm guessing Smith laughed at first then saw the hurt in his wife's face and then overreacted. At that point it would have been better if they just should got up and walked out.

Rock should have okayed it with the Smiths beforehand if he wanted to do the joke. It wasn’t a comedy club roasting session.

Having said that, Smith’s reaction was very Mourinho-esque in that gif.

I am well aware of the condition. I’m not sure Rock was and I’m pretty sure Smith didn’t know either. He didn’t call her ugly or anything that could be construed as bad. Merely likened her to a well known fictional American character. If she is so sensitive about her looks she could have worn a wig as many celebs do. I’m sorry mate, there is zero excuse for it. Next time someone calls me baldy will I lamp them? They were at an event which is well known for taking the piss out of celebs in the front row. Complete and utter overreaction on one of the biggest stages in the world. There were many, many non violent alternatives for making their displeasure known.

Wasn't talking about the reaction of Smith, I'm just surprised and a bit saddened that so many feel the need to defend Chris Rock to the hilt over a really tastless joke.

Why should she wear a wig? Just to stop people like you and Chris Rock laughing at her?

Kind of amazing that this is framed as a divisive subject when it appears it’s actually overwhelmingly one sided. A world map would be interesting to see different cultural stances. Even West Philadelphia is on Chris Rock’s side.

The Academy seem to have read the reaction now as well, releasing the statement that he was asked to leave and refused, and saying he might be expelled.

it’s a minor incident in the grand scheme of things and Monday seemed a bit insane with how big it got, but I’m intrigued to see where the dust settles and if careers or comedians or award ceremonies In general will be effected.
