Will VAR lead to increased football violence?

Sorry mate but I'm not going to agree with you. After Neil Swarbrick said that it was only going to be used for clear and obvious errors then in this case it is immaterial whether it hits his arm. Going to watch it again and I admit I could be wrong but right now I'm so pissed off.
Mate, completely understand your pissed off. I was last night and I’m trying to process this so it doesn’t completely ruin my matchgoing experience.
A new handball rule has been introduced this season which says if a defender handles a ball (irrespective of it being accidental) and that leads directly to a goal being scored then that goal should be disallowed. Harsh given the last minute, given it was Spuds, given it would be a well deserved winner, but within the laws of the game.
I would like an explanation as to why the penalty shout was not reviewed and that is my point. Var will be a disaster until it becomes transparent. Mike the refs so we can here what is going on, show multiple shots/ angles of the incident on the screens on the ground. Ffs just copy rugby where it works well.

I now realise why the VAR machine in front of us has an operator with ‘hawk-eye’ on the back of his shirt, plus his own steward! I watched that steward yesterday, biggish bloke and he wasn’t watching the crowd as the other steward down there was, he was chatting to the VAR operator!

It's not banter, it's out and out goading and unfortunately people will react. Your ire should be directed at the real cause of everyone's anger.

But it is banter, just because you can't take it, doesn't mean it's not banter.

I understand the decision mate, I'm annoyed about it and hope its going to be fair, although that again can be an individual thing. Yet don't be caving someones head in because they laughed at a decision that didn't go your way.

Nothing wrong with VAR, it’s the bloody idiots controlling it that’s the problem, only one person, and I mean one person thought to disallow the goal, the ref was just doing what he was told although he should have the balls to over rule it
Gen Q mate and maybe some one will know - can the ref overrule a VAR decision?

I wouldn't be too bothered about mouthy Cockneys being given a slap after the game yesterday.
Spurs and Chelsea fans are a kind of London version of the Rags.

From the prem itself

How does this work in practice?
  • The VAR speaks to the on-field referee through an earpiece, or vica versa, and the referee will put his hand up to pause play and inform the players a decision is being reviewed.
  • VAR reviews the video footage of the incident and advises whether or not action should be taken. If there has been an error, the referee will draw a rectangle with his arms to replicate a TV a screen to change his original decision.
  • In the case of more subjective incidents, the VAR will instruct the referee to watch a replay on a pitchside screen. This is known as an on-pitch review.
Firstly, referees have been told to avoid on-pitch reviewsat the pitch-side screen whenever possible. These types of review are known to cause the longest delays. Instead, on-pitch referees have been told to trust the advice they are given by VAR.
There has also been a pledge from former referee Neil Swarbrick, the man leading VAR's implementation in the Premier League, to stick to a'higher threshold' for reviewing decisions and only intervene in the case of 'clear and obvious' errors (does not apply to offsides, remember).

I would say a last minute winner would count as a higher threshold and Oliver should have done a pitchside review imho.

Police escort for both sets of fans all the way from the Etihad to Piccadilly. Both sets of fans fighting and Police batons out.

It's an emotional game, but if you can't control your anger you need serious help and YOU are worse than VAR if you resort to violence.

If I was a Spurs fan I'd be delighted with yesterday's result, I wouldn't rub it in and I wouldn't expect another bloke caving my head either.

Emotion is swings and roundabouts, if we win this league, it'll be better than any other.

But do us all a favour, dont get all hissy and want to hurt someone because a game didn't go your way, stay away from the game, it's not yours to damage.

Well said and a bit of perspective
