Will we ever get a cure for cancer?

Some people will tell you that it already exists (but there's no profit) so it's off the agenda for the large pharmaceutical companies.

More frequent scans is the way forward. It fucked me off when my dad got diagnosed and they scanned him 6 months later, then said it had spread..... he passed away not long after. The same thing happened to my sister, she passed. i know the scans cost a lot, but surely prevention saves lives. I beat cancer, but i paid for scans so i knew what was happening, cost me a few quid but i reckon it gave me the strength to carry on and kick it's ass.

I dont know about a cure, but there is certainly a lot of investment into treatment. Technology is allowing for greater precision and techniques into treating the sources, and a lot of funding is being offered to fund research into this area.

I think in the next five to ten years we could see great advancement in this field, from what I've learnt there is greater collaboration between public, private and academic institutions within this field, and science seems to certainly be moving in the right direction.

No, i think "they" could find one but they won't give it us. They'll just give us better ways of us living with it. Theres far too much money to be made in the treatment we won't be given a cure Chris Rock did a good bit on it a few years ago, I'm not his biggest fan but he made a good point. I don't know how to link it but if anyone can be arsed looking i think It's on his bigger and blacker stand up dvd

I imagine through stem cell and GM virus research the treatments will eventually be extremely effective.

It just takes time. Then we'll be statistically more likely to live a bit longer before something else kills us.

It would take a lot less time if the god-bothering nutters in the US didn't try to ban stem cell research at every opportunity.

There are too many causes, mechanisms involved to get a single "cure".

Treatments will continue to improve as will survival rates.

Things like stem cell research will produce step changes.

Sadly though cancer is likely always to be with us.

Or is it more profitable to treat it than to cure it?

Has a cure already been found but being kept back for economic reasons?

No we will never find a cure for cancer and it doesn't already exist.

Well said, those saying there is one but "they" keep it from us are cunts.

I might be wrong, but doesn't cancer mutate? So where we may find a cure for some, it will constantly change it's form.

Agreed that those suggesting that there is a cure and it is being held back or that it is not profitable are fu*king clueless.

My GF works for a major cancer charity and has also worked for CRUK. The leaps forward that are being made in research for diagnosis, treating and in some cases curing are massive. Yes they take time to get right but that is because they are at the fore front of scientific understanding.

There is unlikely ever to be a single 'cure' for cancer which is why years ago CRUK dropped the word from their vocabulary. Having said that the more research that goes into it (particularly on the genetic side) the more belief there is that something will be found. The research funded by cancer charities into the genetic side is also turning up loads of useful findings for other areas of medicine.

People holding back a cure - f@cking grow up. Small minded c@nts the lot of you.
