Its all getting very political and FIFA excluding FIFPro and the PFA from talks about player welfare stinks imo.

I think we're heading for a strike and tbh I wish UEFA would take on FIFA, lesser of two evils as I see it.

Would you be generally supportive of playerers going on strike (Try not to use the lazy argument that they get paid enough so should be ok with being flogged to the point of not enjoying their job). And we all know the clubs shouldnt be doing pre seasons tours.

From my pov there's just too much football, its becoming diluted, as much as I hate the summer break it is needed for us to reset the passion. I almost just wasnt interested in watching City play a summer tournament.

Like @Damocles I’d be supportive but can’t see it happening. It does however need to be sorted because, money aside, these are young lads (& lasses) who are being bullied into abusing their bodies without sufficient rest in between.

I feel the same about all workers who are working too many hours for little reward so I’m not just thinking about footballers here.
A fair days work for a fair days pay for everybody. :-)

They have the power and influence to strike and us supporting it wouldn't mean anything to them. Players need to use the power they have to decline any extra competitive games if they are overly concerned about it becoming too much.

Shit internationals they would crawl over broken glass to play in doesn't help their cause. Here's a bit of data from our favourite impartial broadcaster the BBC.

But research conducted by the respected CIES Football Observatory has delivered data which shows clubs are - on average - not playing more competitive games than they have in the last couple of decades.

You are right to say don’t bring their pay into it although you then add that they are flogged to death to the point where they don’t enjoy their job.
I’m sure many workers / former workers of heavy industry (miners for example) were flogged to death and didn’t enjoy their job and weren’t on 200K or whatever a week!
Same with doctors and nurses and of course these jobs aren’t jobs where they can effectively retire at 37.

Do I think the players are being flogged too much? 100% - but I don’t think they’d be too much sympathy from the public if they went on strike.

I’d love it if they did go on strike and planned it around the weeks of the international breaks!

The players have it within their power to stop the every increasing football calendar congestion, over the recent years more and more matches have been added with the introduction of the expanded World Cup and continental tournaments (Euros ACN etc) then the Nations League, Expanded UCL and CWC. They have had a moan but ultimately have accepted the situation. Clubs are squeezing more pre, and now post, season tours ultimately its expected that players play for 49 weeks. Its greed by the associations, without any due regard for player welfare, and since the players have accepted it then its also greed on their part

IMHO The players should devise their own calendar and cut down the number of matches that they are expected to play. Domestically and internationally and demand that they have a minimum break of x weeks

Just to add, I've suggested in the past that VAR and the delays resulting from it will add to injuries and now research has come out with stats that show this to be the case

For me this is probably one of the biggest issues, it appears that players would play any number of internationals even risking their fitness to do so, it'll be hard for them to fight their corner concerning club duty when they have their arses hanging out for international caps.

Managers have larger squads now they should use them more carefully, not many players are complaining about this in fact players complain more about not getting games.

Only had a quick scan but dont see mention of international games its focused on clubs surely it should be players?Typical of CIES they have a narrative setting out to prove it

Players want to play international games, it's going to be hard for them to argue that they are playing too many club games for a club that actually pay their wages.

I don't even know who is asking for them to play less games? OK a few mention it Rodri for an example but it isn't many.

unlikely, they probably get shed loads more dough for being in these type of tournaments, bonuses etc

Also worth a mention that players in championship play 46 games excluding cups & playoff etc. often with smaller squads.

I never understand the League Cup, it's not needed any more. Replace it with a Home Nations Club Cup of the EFL (no prem) and Scottish league (Irish and Welsh too on qualifiers). Saves prem sides from over playing and gives us the likes of Motherwell vs Reading or Falkirk vs Hull which I think we can all get behind

If support a player's strike.

I get the "They've got loads of money and should work for it..." argument. But at the same time they are human and if they're lucky have a career lasting more than 10 to 15 years.

I'm really not sure what they can do and how would they coordinate it.

For example could you see us and Liverpool players showing up for a title winning game and then walking off the pitch at kick off refusing to play as a protest?
