Our lack of pace at the back will cost us, unless the unlikely of events happens & we sign a centre half with pace, so it’s doubtful we’ll win the league in my eyes unfortunately
Make that a 4 way title race.
City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
It’s unlikely to happen again. Other teams have caught up, and the playing field has evened out. Things might have been different if we’d strengthened after winning our 3rd title. We’ll still win the odd silverware, hopefully the Champions League again but we won’t dominate the PL like we did with those brilliant teams under Pep.No.
Sadly I think Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea finish above us this coming season.
Can't see us winning anything so 4th will be our only prize.
End of a glorious era , hope it's not too many seasons till the start of our next era of dominance.
Slot I think is a pellegrini type (succcess) manager. Pellegrini gave the attacking flare to the team build by Mancini. Slot did the same (changed something tactically) with the squad build by klopp.yep, that type of dominance we just had is probably over. winning 4 in a row or 5 in 6 years is just brutal and for whatever reason Pep, Txiki etc got comfortable and others used that short period well to catch up big time. dippers not even last summer as they didnt do much business but when Klopp was still there and they invested a lot into Szoboszlai, McAllister, Grevenberch that paid off for them as all turned out to be good transfers.
and now they added top quality again.
are we winning 4 titles in next 6 years? very unlikely. will it be more equally shared like 2 dippers, 2 City, 1 Arsenal, 1 Chelsea? could be something like that. are dippers going on a sick run and maybe win 4 of next 6? very hard to do but with proper transfers each summer and if Slot doesnt get found out tactically it could happen.
things can change quickly in football tho, defending a title is harder usually than to win it, last season dippers only had a very bad City and a much weaker Arsenal than what we had to fight against in 23/24 as main rivals.
with a close title race with more quality from the Arse, Chelsea, City dippers could feel different pressure and maybe other sides in the league wont treat now City as the main scalp and treat dippers with bit more careful approach rather than let them attack them so much while they dont even park the bus.
I just dont see a way we get out of our decline unless we start working our ass off again, press hard again, track back lot more, and we really worked since the treble towards not doing these thing and slow our whole approach to reduce risk this way rather than sort out the problem at the root as it was a better fit for our ageing squad and players but it resulted in many many lesser sides able to come up with solutions against us that worked repeatedly. its one thing how we lost to PSG, or vs Liverpool 2x in the league and how Arsenal ripped us apart 5-1 at Emirates.
its the ones vs Spurs, Feyenoord, Sporting, Bournemouth, Brighton and how easily this weaker version of Real Madrid went past us in CL only to be sent home by Arsenal. and the Palace FA final really once again proved whats wrong with us tactically and with the corrupt refs too.
Pep also had an off season, some of his line ups made zero sense, often needing to fix it with subs which often took too late, there wasnt any set line up, odd changes from one game to next, people played until nosebleed than out of the line up for weeks, injured player put back straight into it despite zero form, telling KDB he is not good enough for a renewal but played him 90 mins every 3 days still etc.
it was a mess which was made worse by lots of injury issues especially first half of the season.
the inclusion of january signings were also odd.
reports about internal issues like Lillo and staff not communicating with players , explaining tactics much all year, all a bit off really. personal issues with Pep (divorce, those crazy scratch marks on his head), so overall whatever could have gone wrong it did...
Liverpool won't get Isak this season.
The Saudis won't sell him to Liverpool. Newcastle don't need the money, they are in the CL.
Isak might go to Liverpool when Salah goes, as long as Liverpool can convince Newcastle to sell him, and Liverpool pay Newcastle's astronomical transfer fee for him. But when have Liverpool ever done that for a player ;-)
I was really impressed with Chelsea against PSG last night. Pace, power, pressing, quality individual players all over the pitch. Chelsea will definitely be in the title race.
If we get a decent right back, Rodri stays fit, we don't suffer another long list of injuries, and Pep stops playing the ridiculous high line, we will definitely be in the title race.
Unfortunately I have to agree with you as our defence is frankly awful.No.

And recently play dog shit when in sight of them. You both are wrong. We'll play some fantastic football and compete for the biggest trophies.

What concerns me is we have a keeper who is great with his feet but not a good shot stopper and a defence who lack pace and concentration. We finished 3rd in 16/17, won nothing, and then had the best ever league season in English football.
The point is that you can't predict the future based only on the recent past. The recency bias gets people jumping to conclusions.

Signed half a team in the last two windows got Rodri back and hopefully Phil returns to being FodenCan’t see it with just the 3 players signed, are we all forgetting last season.
