Will we win the league this season?

If the City from Juve game shows up, you will win the league.

If Al Hilal City show up (hole in the middle) then you're 3rd, maybe 4th

I think we’ll play some good football but may take one full season for the new players to form partnerships. All depends on Rodri staying fit. Central defence is a worry - no pace. Don’t think the defence is good enough anymore to justify being champions so based on all that I’m going for 4th but hoping for better.

Keep Rodri and John Stones fit then possibly yes....but I thinknour defensive imbalance will cause us issues.
Also depends on if Pep will start to trust Nico Gonzales as the 6 to give Rodr a rest every now and again

I think a fit Rodri makes all the difference, it's no coincidence we dropped like a stone as soon as we lost him. Remember we were cruising at the top of the league when that happened.

That being said I do understand your uncertainty, I suppose it's expected at the end of such a dominant period.
And it’s not like I’m saying we won’t win the league; we might click from the off and have a storming season. But I have no idea whether that will happen or whether we’ll be distant from the title race again because of the vast numbers of unknowns.

Whereäs, in the past under Pep, I only felt like injuries or our own mistakes would stop us winning the league as we were better than everyone else and the core of our side were world class, in their prime and reliable with hardly any unknowns.

Obviously I want a mass of trophies, like we all do. Nevertheless, judging a season WITH HINDSIGHT based upon this yardstick alone is crazy, considering that a bad VAR, deflected goal, conceding a last-minute worldie etc can completely change what the record books will show in years to come.

It also devalues all those intense/fabulous/catastrophic/ohBollocks/can-barely-watch moments that made up the season in question.

For instance - simply looking at the results of our annual Real Madrid battles (ignoring last season's one-sided affair for the moment) doesn't do justice to the delicious agony of anticipating the matches, kicking every ball, heading every cross, wearing lucky pants (oops, did I type that out loud?), leaping out of your seat moments that United fans would give anything to enjoy again, at the top table.

Whatever the trophy count at the end of this season, therefore, I'll call it a success if we can reach the stage where we go into every game genuinely believing that we have a chance to win it on that particular day.

Our home form is discernibly better than theirs over the last five seasons.

Because we are a much better team, generally speaking. It should be.

The thing is, we don't want to fall behind. Usually when Liverpool get ahead, even win a title, we always manage to get back on top. Allowing these lot to get ahead of us two years in a row? It would get harder and harder to get back on top if they get kind of momentum. Imagine the kop if Liverpool become and dominant force and winning things consecutively. They would be full of confidence and make it an almost impossible place to play it. It's already a daunting place to play when the kop gets rocking. Imagine them with full confidence they can't lose because they've become the dominant force in the league?

it's so important we turn this around.

the reality is, we have no idea. We haven't got a clue the likely starting eleven thats gonna be put out. Its all very uncertain.
The first issue that perhaps comes to mind is our susceptibility to the counter attack - until we sort that out and find a way to combat it, it could be another mixed season.

You think Burnley wont finish bottom 6

They will be like they are now, sing YNWA at 2:55pm and then again at 4:45pm and on the whole in between do fuck all.

Also add to that they get what we get week after week with teams rocking up with 11 men behind the ball camped on the edge of the box clinging to a draw for 90 minutes.

Sadly we will continue to go there and shit the bed and seemingly never perform like we all know we can do.

I've more chance flying by flapping my arms than Stones being fit for more than two games consecutively.

I expect us to finished 3rd or 4th with this current squad. I'll be happy enough with that given it will take more than one summer to change the squad.

I think our wingers and other forward players aren't currently clinical enough (Maybe Cherki can change that) and our defence will need another summer of change. Our midfield will continue to be open until Rodri is back to full fitness.

even in our worst season, we had a perfect start, and a goof win series towards the end. so if we manage to stay within a sniffing distance of the 1st place, others will feel the pressure this time and we have a very good chances.
if the new boys adapt quickly it will make the watching fun again

Last season had to happen in order for the next ones to be better. At some point, we had to lose that bit of motivation after the successes of previous years—the ability to push ourselves to the limit every three days. I think that’s also a core reason why KDB and Jack were shown the door—they were no longer physically or mentally capable of summoning that relentless hunger. Rodri’s injury further clipped our wings. In that sense, it’s good that we have that kind of season behind us.

If we’ve lost our edge in terms of coaching know-how, Pep is now making up for it—he has to come up with a hybrid between possession and quick counterattacks. That’s why we’re seeing a ‘new Pep’ alongside someone from a ‘different school’ and other changes. And Pep will do it—because he’s the best. No doubt about it.

Our squad is very strong—we can and will compete for trophies. Every line has the potential to dominate the opponent. The biggest challenge will be trimming the squad, but the trend seems clear: Reis, Echeverri, and Nypan going out on loan; McAtee, Grealish, Phillips, and Ortega probably sold. Even then we have 26 players, 23 counting out the GK's. A bit crazy.

The key will be the question of intensity. Will our players be able to reach and maintain peak levels? The devil is in the details. Will Stones be able to, health-wise? Will Cherki manage, given he probably hasn’t played at this level of intensity before?

A few people keep mentioning Stones which I find mad, how can we rely on a player who has played less than 50% of the available games since being here? We can't and if we are relying on him again then don't expect much success this season.

Pep didn't trust Nico last year without Rodri, can't see him stepping in for Rodri in any absence. A lot has to go right for us to win it this year and a lot wrong for the likes of Liverpool. I don't think it is impossible but this is a major rebuild we are in the middle of and I don't see much changing until next season really.

I get what you're saying, but John played a huge part in us winning multiple trophies despite only playing in less than 50% of games

Stones and Rodri have been integral to our success and their injury absence wrecked last season. The answer to the conundrum you raised is that 75% of our games are against weaker opponents.

If you took Vinny, Yaya, Silva etc were key players in the teams we had in the 2010 decade. Stones and Rodri are their modern day equivalents. Not all players are equal.

We need a lot of things to click into place if we're to win it I feel.

1 - Rodri stay fit and get back to near his best
2 - Cherki, Reijnders and Ait Nouri to hit the ground running
3 - Foden to get back to his best form
4 - Wingers to start contributing proper numbers and linking better with Haaland
5 - Haaland to hit 40 goals
6 - Some Liverpool signings to flop and Van Dijk and Salah to start to show their age
7 - Arsenal to continue to be Arsenal
8 - Ljinders to have a big impact on our style of play, as teams have worked out how to stop us with our usual style.

Or Liverpool get a title winning hangover, which is fairly common to most teams other than us

Doubt we win it, but we could but as you said there are a lot of variables....although that applies to everyone
