Obviously I want a mass of trophies, like we all do. Nevertheless, judging a season WITH HINDSIGHT based upon this yardstick alone is crazy, considering that a bad VAR, deflected goal, conceding a last-minute worldie etc can completely change what the record books will show in years to come.
It also devalues all those intense/fabulous/catastrophic/ohBollocks/can-barely-watch moments that made up the season in question.
For instance - simply looking at the results of our annual Real Madrid battles (ignoring last season's one-sided affair for the moment) doesn't do justice to the delicious agony of anticipating the matches, kicking every ball, heading every cross, wearing lucky pants (oops, did I type that out loud?), leaping out of your seat moments that United fans would give anything to enjoy again, at the top table.
Whatever the trophy count at the end of this season, therefore, I'll call it a success if we can reach the stage where we go into every game genuinely believing that we have a chance to win it on that particular day.
