Will we win the league this season?

I'm starting to think Pep is burning out as well. I have been of the opinion that he would refresh and go again, but I'm starting to see some signs of a man at the end of his time with us. It has been a glorious time and we will never see the likes again, but right now it feels like the end.
This opinion peaks and troughs with the wind at the moment. A few wins and we have people saying he looks refreshed and hungry and will sign a new contract; a few defeats and we have people saying what you have there.

That young 27 year old midfielder! Don’t think there was anything panicky from Pep last night. More arrogance bordering on stupidity. Was looking to save players legs and may have to play an extra 2 games at full tilt because of it.
Panic applies to Arteta and erratic to Pep. The consequences of what Pep has done are unknown. The cost might be greater than that you suppose. It damages his persona as manager and it damages some players. I doubt for instance that Savinho will be starting in the Premier League any time soon.

I didn't fancy us at the start of the season and certainly don't fancy us now. 4 league defeats out of 12 is not the form of a side who can push all the way. It's another season just trying to build up a better side who can be better placed in a couple of years to have a real go for the title again.
We just need to keep qualifying for the CL as that brings in the funds and appeal of the club to attract top class players.
A telling factor is that only 2 of the summer players we brought in are actually starting on a regular basis, Reijnders, Alt Nouri and Trafford don't appear to be in Pep's starting plans at the moment and Cherki blows hot and cold. On that basis, only Donnarumma can be considered a definite starter.
From January, Marmoush has the odd flash of brilliance but not much else and Khusanov is struggling at times.
It's looking like a Pellegrini last season side, lots of impressive performances mixed with large doses of inconsistency.
This current team will get yer hopes up and then disappoint the next week. Its going to be a bumpy ride!
Khusanov has been injured. Struggling at times presupposes that he plays.

Well that could be a good thing! I get that you could say he hung them out to dry but Savinho played on the wings. He wasn’t out of position and his horrendous performance wasn’t down to what people around him were doing. I do think he’s got a lot of natural ability. However, what’s really not helping him at the moment as he’s struggling badly is that instead of knuckling down, doing the basics right and grafting. He seems to have the arrogance of an Anthony about him.

I still wouldn’t rule us out yet, we have done big personalities in Donnarumma, Rodri, Dias, Bernardo and Haaland. If we can keep them fit then we have a chance. That is of course quite difficult.

Last night was a good indicator that we no longer have the depth. Bobb and Savinho are utterly bereft of confidence and talented footballer that Lewis is, it’s very hard to see where he fits at the moment. Khusanov is a centre back, he can fill in at right back defensively but offers nothing in attack. Ake is a real concern, he was woeful for their second, completely outmuscled.

It seems to me that we haven’t added enough in attack in recent seasons. Doku is finally starting to show consistency but neither Bobb nor Savinho offer goals. It’s really Haaland, Foden, Doku or Cherki who have scored for us this season with no real contribution from Marmoush, admittedly injuries have been an issue for him, Bobb or Savinho which is a big problem. Reijnders was scoring for fun last season but his finishing touch has deserted him.

The arrogant Antony is a crowd favourite at Real Betis.

Savinho is being played in his natural position and he does have a lot of ability but he lacks the confidence to express it. It's not a question of physical effort, it's having the self belief to play your football. Look at Nunes. By playing repeatedly he has slowly evolved into a very decent player.

If Savinho is going to progress, it will be so much easier for him if he is played regularly in functional effective side. Putting him into a struggling side just heaps pressure on the forward players. Bobb, and Marmoush did nothing either last night but it is Savinho who is taking the flak.

I wouldn't play him either at the moment but neither would I write him off

We never had depth to that extent.

In the 'old days' we might make 10 changes for the League Cup and win. We could never expect to do that in the CL.

if Chelsea beat Arsenal this weekend (which I think they will) then they are going to have to be taken quite seriously in this race.

Feel like they are very much going under the radar but they are building something very decent over there. All with their best player currently missing as well.

We no longer have a killer instinct. It doesn’t matter if Arsenal drop points, we’re always a couple of weekends from doing so ourselves.

This is the problem and I've said it before. There will be a duff result every 5 or 6 games as soon as we encounter a workmanlike team who press us a bit. Got to change something or that pattern will remain.

Savio has been shit from day 1. We've seen enough. Giving him a new contract was fucking mental.

Agree . If Chelsea’s owner trusted them he process they could be very good and I like the manager

We need to try and offload Ake to Palace as part of a deal for Marc Guehi

If we could buy a LB and RB who actually have some YouTube evidence of them defending, we'd be in the mix. Whenever anybody is mentioned on here as a possible fullback, all I can find ever online are videos of them attacking.

NOR's making a great stab at LB, but there's no substitute for natural defenders. Also, I'm not sure that LB is really exploiting his strengths.

That would also free up Nunes - he still makes me nervous at RB, but when he looks confident he's a force on the wing.
