Will we win the league this season?

City dropped 4 points against a depleted and work man Sunderland team, and an average Chelsea team, with Brighton to come next week. And some forum members still genuinely think City will win the league. Lol!
Think deep down most know we won't but to think we could certainly isn't a bad thing.

Yes, we can. There are still plenty of games left, a direct match at home vs Arsenal, so why on earth should we write everything off already, considering how many points we were often behind in recent seasons? Stay positive and get behind the team. Some posters here are really made for negativity. Hopefully that's not your way of going through life. C‘mon City, I believe :-).

Defence wins titles, a strong defence can carry you to a title. We don’t have that, we look to vulnerable at the back

At this rate, by April, the home game against Arsenal will be a free hit for them.

Never say never, but the last two results have made it a really tough ask. Arsenal are still capable of a meltdown, but they’re huge favourites from here.
Their squad is better. They don’t play great football they simply have the best squad for the job. Driving home today I was thinking about how weak our bench was today and thinking about the work still needed in terms of moving in the likes of Phillips Akanji Grealish Stones Ortega Kovacic Lewis Ake as well as upgrading the poor signings like Savio Marmoush Ait Nouri.

Agreed we’ve don’t have the personnel good enough to be able to close the game up. Teams know that we have vulnerability under a good press so the game is never done and dusted, as we saw today. I think we need to focus on defensive signings in the future transfer markets

I think we are decent at the back, but we have too many who are too passive in midfield defensively and put our back four under pressure when it shouldn’t happen.

The midfield give the ball away far too often and then don’t work hard to get back. It’s why BSilva was put more centrally second half and Reijnders bunged on the left and then taken off… although it could have been any one from Reijnders Foden and Cherki.

Nunes has improved immensely, we’ve only ever lost one game with Dias+Gvardiol as a pair at centre back and looked sound at the back when they were both on the pitch today, and O’Reilly showed he’s going to be a good player but at 20 he shouldn’t be playing as much as he is (but Ait-Nouri has been mostly injured, at ACON or looked very unfit when he has played).

Top 4 and a cup final is most likely with this team and management.
I didn’t know what to expect of our unfinished and inexperienced squad at the start of the season. But I’d have taken that back in August.

We’re only ever a few injuries away from being in trouble for numbers. Half our bench were EDS players today.

If we can keep key players fit, we could be in a title race but how often does that ever happen? Can only remember 2022-23 where we kept everyone fit. Our best player has been out pretty much full term, and our 2 first choice CBs went off today.

If we end up finishing second but rectifying two FA Cup defeats and winning the FA Cup, with a decent CL run, I’ll be well happy with that for a transition season.

There’s nowt wrong with the management, this squad just needs a bit more time, a few who contribute too little or nothing at all to be sold/released and a few more quality players brought in.

I might get pushback for this..

We were behind Liverpool and Arsenal multiple times before. Even though we were not clicking.. we managed to click eventually because the team had belief in each other.

That's one thing I look at this team and I go.. do they believe in each other? And that's something I think this team is lacking as we just seem to not be there mentally.

It's like that the 17-18 season rolled around and we went on that 18 game winning streak.. that made us believe like wow this is what we're capable off.

We need one of those long runs again to get the belief back in ourselves.

Because just thinking Rodri will do it all by himself isn't exactly the right way to go about things.. he still needs the rest of the team to do their job.

We have struggled against any half decent side away from home , results have masked out poor performances.

I don't personally understand what our tactical approach or game plan is at times and the players certainly don't seem to either.

We are so narrow we don't look capable of creating a chance. When it does go wide it's with players who largely go backwards anyway. Doku is the only natural width which shows you why we want Semenyo.

We either play quickly and look to score but risk giving the ball away or we play slowly not really doing anything in particular and still give it away.

Arsenal are a very good side. We are a side that can win games but the fact we haven't managed to put in a performance over 90 minutes yet this season is enough for me to know we won't win enough to win the league.

As long as we keep improving and add to the squad I will take the positives though. We are certainly better than last season, and still developing. And I still believe on our day, with the right approach, we can go and win the CL

I do think Pep needs to sort this lack of energy out though. His trusty players aren't keeping the ball so he needs to try something different.

That was exactly what I was expecting before a ball was kicked. We just aren't as good as Arsenal at the moment. That doesn't make us shite just not the best team in the league at the moment. We are a team in a rebuilding stage. We are not a million miles off it, but not quite there yet.
