Will we win the league this season?

City dropped 4 points against a depleted and work man Sunderland team, and an average Chelsea team, with Brighton to come next week. And some forum members still genuinely think City will win the league. Lol!

Arsenal have also dropped points against a 10 man Chelsea and Sunderland away like us. I’m not saying we are going to win the title, but let’s not forget 2012. We were 8 points behind Fergie’s United with just 5 games to go, and we won the title. United slipped up against Wigan away (who were on the brink of relegation) and Everton at home before facing us, and that opened the door for us.

At this moment, given how we’ve been playing, it’s fair to say the odds aren’t in our favour. But there’s still so much football to be played, and pressure has a way of exposing even the strongest sides. We’ve been hit hard by injuries recently, but that could just as easily happen to Arsenal. Nothing is decided yet, and as long as we keep fighting and taking it game by game, anything is possible.

Right now though, I'd probably be happy with a Top 2 finish. We have improved on last season and it highlights to the board that more work is to be done in the summer if we are to win the League again. We have Foden, Haaland, Cherki, Doku all under 25. The future isn't all that bleak.

A few people going to look very silly in this thread and don’t worry I’m keeping receipts. Make the right January signings. Don’t let Arsenal get out of sight. And we’re going to win this thing. Bring on Brighton

Weren't the rags 8 points in front with 6 games to play? We're second favourites but we're course and distance winners. Won't be the first time Arsenal look likely to win the league, CL and FA Cup and go out of all three in March

5th gets CL again this season.

Can't see us finishing lower than that
Its looking that way.
I think Poland are the team ahead of us in the current rankings but we still have all teams left in all competitions.
Germany are in 3rd place but a few of their teams will be exiting soon

Have you got a link for that table mate?

We're top of the overall points rankings along with Italy in 2nd I think.

Like you said, with a number of teams leaving the competitions soon I think England will be confirmed pretty soon.

Every single English based European team look to be playing in the next knockout round of their respective competitions. No other league comes close to this.

La Liga are going to have a few casualties by the looks of it.

I do think not paying the money for Declan Rice was a mistake on our part.

He’s not the flashiest player, and maybe not the most technically gifted, but the guy is a real leader. You can see it in the way he carries himself, how he talks to his teammates, and the confidence he appears to give everyone around him. He has that winning mentality that some of our lads lack.

In that sense, he reminds me of a Lampard or De Bruyne.

Uefa coefficient table

Position CountryCoefficient
Average Teams/Active
1 Poland 13.625 4/3
2 England 13.48 9/9
3 Germany 12.285 7/7
4 Cyprus 11.40 4/3
5. Italy 11.250 7/7
6 Spain 11.218 8/8
7 France 10.714 7/7
8 Portugal 10.600 5/4
9 Denmark 9.500 4/2
10 Greece 9.500 5/4

Much will depend on the final two rounds of matches in the Champions League and Europa League.

Poland is in first place but all four of its teams have played in the Conference League, and one has been eliminated. With that competition having wrapped up its league phase, Poland will score no points in January and will slide down the table.

Because of the number of bonus points available in the Champions League, it is highly improbable a league outside of the traditional top five will claim one of the EPS places.

England is in second and is 1.201 points ahead of Germany. In real terms, that's four victories and a draw for Bundesliga clubs.

But England has more teams in Europe - nine to Germany's seven - so each win is worth less to its average score.

For that reason England has to keep many clubs active as possible, or other leagues can chip away at its score.

A winning mentality that manifests itself by never winning anything ?

A real leader who approaching 30 years of age has won the total sum of one 3rd tier European trophy. You should see Dave from my local footy team. He’s a real warrior on the pitch and can down a pint in less than 3 seconds at the pub after. A true inspiration both on and off the field. Get him signed up for City tomorrow I say

Can’t see it mate . It’s alright saying arsenal drop points but we are two intact 4 in the last 2 games and yes transfers will help but we are not ready yet and sorry to set but arsenal will pull away . If I’m wrong tell in may and I hope I am aswell .

Very tall order for us. Arsenal just need to keep doing the same. We need to improve, maintain it and hope Arse falter as well. Not impossible, but unlikely atm.

I personally don't think it's over til it is. I'm not a happy clapper by no means but the ease at which some of our fanbase raise the white flag is comical at times. We've still to play them, and just had a run of eight wins, and we've still not lost in that time.

It took the wind out of me conceding that late yesterday but realistically, there's five months to go, that lot have form for bottling and anything can happen.
