Do we need one in England? During Christmas you usually get some crazy results and big part of that is how many games that are played during this period. Also we seem to be knackered for big competitions come summer time.

So do we need a winter break, so the players dont get burned out?

Just because the top teams all dropped points over the last few days doesn't mean the Christmas break is to blame. Also what would we do without football over Christmas? spend time with famlily?!? pfffff

Actually havent thought about it like that.....you are right. Stupid thread....mods delete it

One of the most animated interviews I've heard Sven give was on the subject of the winter break. He claimed that the issue wasnt so much one of tiredness, but he was adamant that it had a big impact on the number of injuries that players pick up near the end of the season. No winter break = more injuries in March to May.

He'd obviously looked into the subject in great depth.

The issue with the winter break is that it's supposed to coincide with the worst of the winter weather. Being as that's quite unpredictable, it's unworkable

Now if you're saying there are too many fixtures crammed into the Christmas/New Year period, well if the games are not played then and we have a winter break, there are going to be at least two other periods in the season where there's huge fixture congestion, unless you intend that football's played througout the summer

^^ This

And also.... yeah, lets have a break to give the players a rest..... and all the top teams fuck off to warmer climates for lucrative friendly games = more travelling and more games.... the lesser attractive teams are spent on their arses doing nothing.

Keep it as it is.

They need a break due to the absurd fixture congestion nowadays but the insatiable greed of the Premier League and Sky will ensure it never happens.
