I think the team selection all stems from Rodri not being available. No Rodri means inverted full backs, which in turn means wingers have to be wingers. Therefore no Marmoush, no Cherki, no Nunes as Rico inverts better than him.

If Rodri is on the pitch, Pep is comfortable letting the full backs be the width and that’s when you see Marmoush/Cherki drifting infield from starting out wide. With no Rodri, we pack the midfield with the full backs to hold Nico’s hand.

Anyone else just not fussing about that lineup?

First and foremost it should be good enough to beat that Wolves side. Second we’re seeing Nico start which we’ve wanted, Bobb starting which is a year in the making, Reijnders/Ait Nouri debuts, Stones back along side Ruben.

We’ll have stronger lineups down the line no doubt but whatever happens it’s at least interesting. Most on here a week ago would’ve taken an opening day XI without Akanji, Gundo, Ederson etc. Pep can’t win!
