Wolves (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Would rather watch Wolves under him playing a good style of football than any of those other low block teams with 11 behind the ball (yes, that includes you Arsenal). He's done a good job at Wolves this season.
Agree but he's a typical English manager in his interviews.

In the games to which you are referring the opposition usually sets up specifically to stop him from getting chances, often committing multiple players to that goal, and actually have the quality to do it, but it almost always open up space for other players like Phil, Kev, or Rodri to take their chances. Sure, he has the odd off game, but most of the time he contributes a lot to the overall success of the team, even when he isn’t scoring. And when he is being double- or triple-teamed, other players need to step up; when they don’t is when we often have issues, which I think has been the case this season at times, mostly due to the fatigue from last season’s treble exploits.

But, even given all that, and the tactics he has faced, he has scored or assisted against many of the “top” teams.

He runs rampant in games like this because the opposition don’t have the quality to stifle him, even with numbers, so he can actually get on the end of chances.

I think we need to move past this narrative that “Haaland doesn’t show up in the big games”. It is overly simplistic, inaccurate, and disrespectful to his contributions to our overall play in those games.
Absolutely correct

Just watched MotD. I didn't watch highlights of Arseal's match so I would be interested to hear the comments (if any!) on their penalty, but I noticed that City are judged by different standards to other clubs (especially you know who ...). Ian Wright thought thr first was one of the worst penalty decisions ever and that it was getting ridiculous now. This took me back to that famous day in 2017 when Mane was sent off as Liverpool went down 5-0 at the Etihad. Ian Wright, along with Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, thought the sending off was wrong because "any striker" had the right "to go for the ball" when he had a chance of winning it. When we look at the incident again we see that Mane had both feet off the ground. one of his boots head high and all studs showing as he kicked Eddi in the face well after Eddie had headed the ball clear! Eddie was stretchered off, unconscious and receiving oxygen. This was "going for the ball" a la Wright, Shearer and Lineker. So Wright's is perhaps still not a reliable judge of bad penalty awards.

Good win and good performance from City. Excellent from Haaland.

What a performance that was yesterday, We were at it from the first whistle. Haaland with two absolute beauties! His second goal in particular, The pass from Eddie to Phil and then Phil to Erling and BANG! World Class.

Even though Erling scored 4 and was sensational throughout the game, I always find it hard to look past Rodri, His performance yesterday was ridiculously good, He's everywhere week in week out hitting 8/10, 9/10, 10/10 performances...He's an absolute monster in that midfield and the assurance he gives the team and us fans that we will win games is incredible. Absolutely love the guy.

You're spot on about Rodri. He's a rolls Royce of a player and no coincidence the problems this season occurred in the games he missed.

I do rate Declan Rice and he's also had a very good season. But the narrative some rival fans try and push that he is a better player than Rodri is total nonsense. Rice had a good performance yesterday, but Rodri has the higher goal involvement of the two ad things stand and given trophies won, important goals over a sustained period of time, Rice has a long way to go to be in that conversation.

Under title chasing pressure that was an absolutely brilliant performance. Thank God for gravity as Haaland would be in moon orbit following that jump! Big shout out to the two Croatians, Kovacic and Gvardiol, both very high class players who have settled well.
Talking of the jump can anyone work out how high Erling was? It looked close to 10 foot OR 3 metres for the young 'uns!
