Wolves (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Yeah, pull your socks up Phil. You may have won everything under the sun before age 25 and given us some of the most memorable home grown moments ever, but you need to get your finger out young man.
It is an immense amount of responsibility. Pep has given Phil the platform to step into Daveed's shoes. Yes, I like Romanticsm. Phil is now a year into when Silva joined us. And I know it easy to make comparators. Phil has always made it clear that Daveed was his icon. He is now in the position to do it. Football is all about jealously. Shaun Goater for example...

Make no mistake about it. We didn't play very well, again.

Though I did love that defensive effort at the end and the ensuing huddle between them. I thought Guehi had a good debut, and hopefully Marmoush's scoring gets him going and ultimately lights a fire under Haaland.
FFS we scored 2, hit the bar twice, could have had more on top of that and kept a clean sheet. I really don't understand what people expect from a team that's in transition with players still getting to know each other, 2/3rds of the team changed and struggling with injuries amidst a manic schedule.

To put it into perspective, Arsenal (who are light years ahead of us at the moment apparently), needed 2 own goals to beat them, one in the dying seconds of injury time.

You're absolutely right.

I said after the United game, as much as it hurt, we can still have a great season, but we undoubtedly need to start playing better. Hopefully, this is the start of that.
Odd, I thought we were having a great season. 2nd in the league, 2-0 up in the semis of the Carabou, still in the CL as it stands and what should be a relatively simple passage to the next round of the FAC. Only Arsenal are still in all 4 competitions.

Given our current situation I think that's pretty amazing. People are just expecting too much from an injury hit team in transition. Sure, two painful defeats on the bounce but they're the only two we've lost in something like 15-16 matches.

Didnt see the point in bringing phil and haaland on. Didnt improve us at all and cherki, marmoush deserved the 90 mins
Yes I would agree with that. Three one thing that has changed in the past couple of seasons is that we're making 2, 3 or more changes now whereas we used to keep the same XI on for the entire 90 for the most part.

My concern is it's usually after those changes that we've been conceding the most, or it appears that way. Seems to me we'd be better referring back to what we used to do unless it's absolutely necessary and keeping the danger players on for the 90 then resting them where we can rather than swapping and changing during the match. I know its needs must sometimes but it worked well for us prior to last season.

Well done Marmoush and Semenyo.
It's a shame we didn't push on in the second half.
I've always believed that we shouldn't try to exert any more energy than we have to with the schedule that we have. We may have an extra 2 CL matches to play yet.

Didnt think there was much to complain about until I read a few pages pf the match thread and realised the sky fell in and no-one told me.

3 points, job done, HWIAC, move on to the next one.
It's like being in an alternate universe isn't it? Hit with injuries, team in transition with the majority of the players today not even at the club this time last year, the need to drag ourselves out of a tricky patch, huge match coming up on Wednesday (and the addition of another 2 matches to an already punishing schedule of it all goes wrong so a genuine need to conserve energy), and they're STILL not happy. Despite still holding 2nd place in the league, semis of the League cup and still in the other 2 comps.

Still, only 20 pages so it couldn't have been that bad. I can only imagine what it was like in here after the last match, I didn't dare look.

We needed a win and we got a win, but I'm not getting giddy after a 2-0 win against a team with 8 points from 23 games.
Let me put that into context. Forest in 17th are averaging a point a game. There's no reason to expect them to get significantly better or worse so Wolves are likely to need 38 points to stay up. That's 30 points required from 15 games, so Wolves would need to play as well as the current third place club to stand a chance of survival.
We beat a Championship side today, a Championship side complete with Championship chants: Yes it's a fucking library, and yes there's a fucking fire drill between 75 and 80 minutes every fucking game.
I bet you're fun at parties.

Disagree, was by less than a yard away and if that had been a us defending we would be saying as much.
If that has been us it would have been given.

I thought it was 50-50, might have been a little harsh if it had been given, but then when you are the angle from behind the player he very clearly stretches his arm out as far as he can, right to the fingertips. Looks like a keeper trying to stretch for a save, so stonewall penalty on review for me.

That performance papered over the cracks , the midfield isnt right , Bernardo was brilliant in the first half but ran out of steam , Reijnders was non-existent again and Rodri is miles away from his best , Marmoush and Semenyo were the bright lights looking lively and the defence was 100% better with Guehi in the team. Some of these players just arent at the level of previous players KDB , Gundo , are badly missed and are proving irreplaceable.

Well played City...Nunes, Khusanov, Geuhi, Semenyo, Marmoush fantastic...inventive finish Omar with underside of your boot... Definitely a penalty, the wolves player puts his arm out just as Marmoush controls it, it doesn't matter if he is trying to slow down or trying to grab Marmoush or intends it or not...natural position? Hmmmphh!! Phil Foden with a lovely pass to Semenyo for his nearly goal against the upright...loved the defending celebration for the triple block late on by Nico O'Reilly, Foden, Geuhi, Khusanov & Donnaruma...Semenyo brilliant tracking back to win the ball after losing it for a nearly Cherki goal...match day thread still 50% sponsored by Fannie Wipe fc but its getting better down from 80% recently and 99% last season. ManYoo will beat Bottle it fc later. Hoping for the same energy & movement on Wednesday. Don't rise to the bait Pep with the ref at the end. Up the blues...keep the faith.

We don’t kick on after scoring 1-2 goals these days. It’s something we used to do regularly, get a couple early goals and we’d be racking up 4-5. Feels like we just take the foot off the gas, and that’s when teams can punish us.
