Is Stones a waste of a squad place given that he's never fit for us but always plays for England?
He might start a few games for England but he never seems to finish half of them, either taken off, or limping off .... he's generally just a waste of space for both club and country, yes !

And here's Guehi lookin' forward to to startin' a City match with him, he could be in quite for some wait !

Out of 402 Premier League matches Stones has missed 191 of them. That's just Prem since he joined. Atrocious lol

Such a shame. What a player when fit.

It is atrocious .... half his league games missed almost, and who knows how many cup games.

Always manages to get himself fit for the club tours though !

Imagine telling your boss at work you'll only be turning up for work for 6 months this year?? He's likely to reply .. 'well don't fk'n bother, you can forget it altogther and sign on UC for the next 12 months' !

And that's probably why Stones won't get a contract renewal at City !

We never get any proper updates on how he is progressing.
Somebody on here reckoned Stones had got that Plantar faciitis in his foot .... well if he has, and he's waiting for that to clear up he might have a long wait ..... one guy I read about had had the condition for 25 years!

Watching Marmoush in the African Cup of Nations. He played so much better when playing just off the striker. So this lineup could work, although it does lack the creativity that Cherki gives us.

That's interesting. Didn't see any of AFCON, but that is exactly where I've always seen his natural position. Just off the shoulder of the front man. He's no winger, don't find him convincing at all out there (and he'll be even less so with Semenyo and Doku in contention, and, I suppose Savinho, since Pep seems to rate him [can't fathom it, myself, but there you are], even Cherki can play out on the wing more convincingly) and he's no target man up front either. He's not really a replacement for Haaland, and never will be. He is potentially an assistant to Haaland. He plays some neat little balls in, and he can beat one player (but not two, still less three) from time to time, which can give him that yard of space in the box. His shooting's not great, but hey, join the club, with Reijnders and Savinho in their starring role.

Probably? I honestly don't think there's any probably about it, mate. The back line's already been replaced. Khusa, Josko, Guehi, maybe Max. Reis to come back? The club seemed to rate him very highly in recruiting him, as a prospect anyway.
That is the defence for years to come.
All things must pass… I still remember as a thing of glory the Días—Stones ‘firm’, round about ’21, ’22, ’23. When they were both at their height they were a fortress. Chipped in with a few goals, as well. The best central pairing I've seen since Booth and Watson at their best, and those two were nothing like as good going forward (but then, nobody asked a centre-half to be a semi-midfielder in those days…)

Booth and Watson scored from their fair share of corners to make up for any limitations they may have had on the ball. Hard to know how effective they would be in the modern game as corners are akin to watching WWF wrestling.

I'm feeling quite negative going into this one however that may not be a bad thing because I've been ridiculously postive going into the last 3 PL games.

Surely if we can field an 11 of,

Donnaruma

Nunes
Guehi
Khusanov
O'Reilly

Rodri
Nico

Semenyo
Anyone of Marmoush/Silva/Reijnders/ Foden
Doku

Haaland

Should comfortably be enough to get 3 points, we'll see.

Did they? I'd forgotten that. Not, obviously, Tommy's goal at Villa Park.

(Incidentally, just watched the footage of that back. How good was it when we could play a semi-final at places like Villa Park and Goodison? It made total sense. A short trip, for both sets of fans, in this case. And those terraces behind the goals — our end looks like Annapurna south face).

Gave this a like then realised you've not included Cherki. Doh. Face Palm.

I was right at the back of the Holte End when we played Ipswich in the semi final at Villa Park, great atmosphere and quite some view ...... the South Bank at Wolves always impressed me too back in the 70s/80s, you had to watch your back there though, there was very little segregation in the 70s, if any!.

They wouldn't have been able to deal with Dave Watson, Tommy Booth and Joe Royle.

I've had it, on/off, every year since I was 12 and I'm now 40. Continuously for 25 years would be an absolute nightmare
