A good piece Damo and although we don't see eye to eye at times I agree with the majority of it, especially about us defending width and it being a worry against the Rags.

Our weakness is when the full back (whichever side) tucks in when the ball is on the opposite flank, the Rags have great strength in spotting this and switching play quickly to exploit the space.

Another weakness we've shown of late is not picking up the player that drops in the whole between the two in midfield and defence, something that Rooney likes to exploit.

The above two are my only worries though and our strengths will by far outweigh our weaknesses.

Agree with all of that, the cross field balls are a real worry as is the lack of tracking overlaps by Silva and Nasri. I'm thinking about a United Preview piece as it's such a big game and it's tactically a very interesting match up but I'm running out of time.

Thanks for the feedback :-)

Great read, cheers mate.

Your analysis of Barry was very interesting I still worry about his lack of pace, but most of the time he seems able to compensate with his fantastic positionel awareness.

He cant lose anymore pace though as I dont think his great footballing brain can keep compensating if he loses pace.

Thanks for posting, that has got to be one of the most informative and interesting posts I've ever read on Bluemoon. The attention to detail is almost freakish!

I'm 43 and thought I knew my football but some of that was a real eye-opener for me.

I was particularly pleasd about the analysis of Barry's game. I'm a huge fan and I've had a few arguments with fellow blues about his role and huge contribution to the way we play.

Thanks very much, a great post.

Fantastic post..really enjoyed that.

I too have noticed that Barry seems to go to war when we don,t have the ball..watching him scurry around our midfield in search of the ball impresses me no end-such a combative, determined midfield player who never hides and understands his role brilliantly. Perpetual motion is how i would describe him in action, sorting out all the centre midfield pressing, filling in for others , and allowing our more skilful players to hurt our opponents further upfield.

An outstanding player.

When do we get the rags preview then?

Thoroughly enjoyed that, made the delay on the tube seem insignificant.

I too get thoroughly cross when commentators say that it's a negative sub when De Jong comes on for Silva/Nasri when Yaya is on the pitch. They constantly go on about his marauding runs, i would hazzard a guess that most of them happen when De Jong and Barry are on the pitch with him. But then they're only commentators, wtf do they know!

The Barry comments are interesting, I do think that he's a very effective player for us, my only problem is that his short passing seems to go walkabout for spells during important games.

Altogether excellent summary (is that fair?) and pretty much how I felt about the game on the weekend. Bring on the rags!

Thanks for the comments guys :-)

I will see if I can get the United preview out today or tomorrow.
