Women's football rules

No, the answer is that the women's game would be absolutely non-existent if it required an entirely different infrastructure of unique pitches and goals.

Women play on the same sized pitch in Rugby, use the same size tennis court, run 100m, 200m, 400m etc.

Forced equality FFS, give it a break.
Not true. 100m hurdles rather than 110m hurdles and the hurdles are not as tall.So the logic (especially about an 8 foot high goal for example being reduced) is valid.

When my son started secondary school they put them in full size goals and it was ludicrous - the first 2 seasons it was just about shooting high so the keeper (unless he was a freak) wouldn't get it. It added nothing to the value. We now have 9 a side initially with smaller goals. The problem is multi pitch sizes and additional cost but logically a slightly different sized goal (smaller or larger for men) does make sense

Topical one with the game today.

Firstly, I fully support women being able to play football and its great that it's becoming more popular (get that in before anyone starts shouting about sexism).

In cricket, women play on smaller pitches. In boxing they have a maximum of 10 rounds instead of 12. In tennis they play best of 3 instead of best of 5. For shotput women use a lighter shot.

Why in football do women have the same rules as men?
(The answer is forced equality)

Women's football would be a lot higher quality to watch if they played on slightly smaller pitches with smaller nets and cut the games down to 40 minutes each half.
Maybe they could just play with a bigger ball, space hopper size possibly, so that would solve the infrastructure problems you refer to?

I see womens football a bit like youth football, or mens football from 30-40 years ago before nutrition and training brought the overall physical level of players up to such a high level across the board. Because the average level of physicality is not where it is in the mens game, the "freaks" stand out more. The "bigger" pitch makes those physically gifted stand out and dominate in a way they don't now in the mens game, the star players stand out more.

Even watch early PL games and you see a fast jinky winger leaving half-drunk lumbering defenders in their wake, it's a sight to behold. If anything, the mens game has moved to a physical and tactical level that has taken a lot of that out of it, to it's detriment, a bit like rugby union now where everyone is so big and fast that the pitch is too small for much fun stuff to happen very often, everyone covers too much ground.

jeez careful what you say about the womens game. Minefield. really is and its really depressing

What's daft is the constant comparisons with the men's game. It's not needed. And that can get pretty depressing for the women (and girls) who want to play the sport.

The best way to view it in some ways, is like Boxing. There are people bigger and stronger, but you don't see a Featherweight winning the World Title and constantly hear people saying that Tyson Fury would destroy him. And you don't hear people saying it, because it's irrelevant.

They used to - listened to the interview with the lass who was Capt of the (amateur) team that played Sweden in a 2 legged final in the 70's....... they used size 4 footballs - smaller goals and I assume therefore a smaller pitch.

They don't need a backward step to that - they are much better all around 50 years later

In fairness ive seen a lot of tweets posts from women like “the girls can do what the boys cant” etc. absolutely no point, from either gender, comparing.
