Please don’t ask me to disclose my sources, but apparently Gareth Taylor is being replaced by Hugh Ferret sometime this week, on the basis that he’s been around the club a long time but has no great coaching experience

If this is true then that’s a crazy decision. I don’t think Hugh has any coaching experience, while I can appreciate he has close ties to the club that shouldn’t land you a role like this.

I personally find him funny so he might be able to motivate the players but tactically he might struggle.

It might clash with his 30 minute BBC sports segment on night matches.

What a frustrating game last night. Madrid looked ok but very beatable, but the ball seemed to get caught up in midfield in nearly every attack, with the ball being played into feet and then passed back over and over again rather than what looked like quite a lot of space to get in behind. Even with the frustrating build up play City missed a load of gift wrapped chances whereas Madrid seemed to take theirs.

Not a fan of Taylor but last night was down to the players.
The inability to find a blue shirt was as bad as it gets.

Agree with you here, I too thought over both legs they were the better team. Last night they pressed us constantly and whilst we had a lot of possession it was mostly in the middle third of the pitch. They had their chance and took it and we didn't take ours. I can only remember one shot on target which is a poor return. Thought some of the substitutions were a little odd, esp Raso going off. Hemp must have been booked for calling the ref something unpleasant, I thought she was going to belt someone because it looked a foul to me.
ON the drive back home I couldn't recall a single full blooded shot at the Real goal. Had Hemp been clad all in white she'd have got the free kick. Too many refs make a bollocks of it and then hide behind the cards when players question the whys and wherefores. There was summat in the second half down by the NE corner where I thought Steph was getting carded for remonstrating with the ref over summat! The ref's performance just shaded ours for being worst of the three!

Players freeze they don’t ever play the same as in league games when they play a top side mentally blockage

We seem to have jettisoned the idea of driving forward from midfield and thus giving either winger the chance to move forward unhindered and facing the opposition goal rather than channelling everything onto the wings from the halfway line.

A sandwich that must have fallen out of Bunny Shaw’s lunch box. Rarely seen such an unfit player in a City shirt. Does not bode well for this season. Chelsea, Arsenal and even the Rags would have got through this fixture with ease.
She's not living up to the accolades that have been written before she kicked a ball. Top scorer in the French league last season? She got a chop in the first half and I wondered whether that was the trouble or she was just knacked. She doesn't seem to be much of a target player nor does she seem to do much with it. One flicked pass last night was the highlight.

Are you winding me up? Firstly that you thought I was being serious, but more so that you find Hugh Ferret funny?

Still very early days, but she's not stood out in any of the games so far . I also look at her build and expect too be more bustling, put her self about with the defenders , a bit like how Natasha Flint was some seasons back !

I thought we'd got the women's version of Lukaku. I expect a bit more hustle 'n bustle this season from her!

I have just received an email from the club apologising about last night, not about the performance but about having bought tickets for particular seats and not being able to sit in them. Apparently I will be offered a refund! The email is from the much maligned supporter services. Did anyone else get one?

I’ve said it many times…
To much playing the ball back. From the forwards, to the midfield to the back four. Houghton & Greenwood seemed to always be in possession of the ball. Too laboured throughout. Shocking performance over both legs.

Total opposite of a Pep side… the ball does none of the work…. The players run around like busy fools. Passing is simply woeful.

Passing is not just woeful, it’s also too negative, safe and too often the ball goes from the forwards to the back for no reason. This team has gone backwards… literally.

What's weird is that at the back end of last season things were starting to look positive for the future. I guess losing certain players here and there has exposed the rest of the squad.

Six players in is a lot of players to gel in just a few weeks, especially after losing Mewis (the best midfielder in the league from the games I saw) plus Roebuck, Bronze, Walsh and Kelly to injury.
You can integrate players slowly if you have the stars around to help them.
Taylor is under massive pressure after being backed so well in the market this summer.
