If she thinks City is a basket case wait till she joins PSG.

Players fucking their sporting director. Another one trying to get a fellow player killed. It's one big soap opera in comparison.
I belive PSG's manager and other staff "fat shames" the women's team as well and will put them on a near starvation diet. I'm not saying Bunny Shaw is a lard arse or anything but she will not be treated well there.

I see your point. That said, Ouhabi may not fit in either. That is the chance you take bringing anyone in to a club. Therefore, saying a new CB may not fit in so keep Greenwood there really doesn't help your argument. It sounds good until you consider it carefully.

Greenwood is a good CB. She is a great LB. She played CB out of necessity for the the most part last season. If would hope the club has spoken with her about bringing in another to play her position. And before everyone says "Of course they have," it would not surprise me if it hadn't been done.
It is still a risk, for sure, but it requires less disruption and that reduces the risk. If we focus on getting a new centre-back then to give them a chance it means either dropping Greenwood entirely to make way at centre-back, or dropping Stokes and moving Greenwood to left-back. If we buy a new left-back, you don't have to reshuffle the defence, you 'only' have to worry about whether Stokes or the new one is a better fit.

I disagree with that too tbh, she's definitely more experienced playing at left-back, but it's gone far, far past the point of playing there out of necessity. Beckie and Stanway played right-back in patches out of necessity but it never stuck. Greenwood played almost all of last season at centre-back (and was one of the best in the country at it really) and played a good few games the season before too. They might end up moving her back but she's absolutely good enough to be one of our starting CBs.

A real challenge next season.
Happy with Roebuck, Greenwood, Morgan, Mace, Raso, Park, Hemp, Kelly…….jury still out on Losada, Angeldahl and Blakstad. Time to move on White, Kennedy and Coombs. Shaw far too slow and the positional sense of a badger on a Somerset road at night.
Walsh and Stokes - great servants but far too negative and positions too safe.
3 linked players from Spain…..why would they be coming to City?? A manager who has consistently failed to get the best out of foreign players.
City need to be looking at the best available talent within the English game. It’s obvious that we don’t have it within our own Academy.
Gareth Taylor remains the ‘elephant in the room’.
God help us if we were to lose Lauren Hemp.

7 fuck
Taieb
Bronze
Stanway
Weir
Scott
Who else?
fearing a shit show.. not much faith in Taylor tbh.. oh for a Manc equivalent to Emma Hayes

Come on, people...

Taieb: A TERRIBLE keeper, so no loss
Bronze: Struggling with the pace at 30+
Stanway: Not developing as a player, needed a new start
Weir: A good left peg for shooting, didn't really advance the attack in midfield play
Scott: Struggling with the pace at 30+

These are NOT irrational decisions. City Women are, clearly, trying bring down the age average as well as up the squad quality.

It will hurt in the short term, but will be forgotten about in 6 months.

Out of those who would you have kept ?

Taieb, was next to useless.
Bronze, well below her previous levels since injury, and 30.
Stanway, yes disappointing, but likely getting a far bigger payday due to our wage cap. .
Weir, also disappointing, but likely getting a far bigger payday due to our wage cap.
Scott, hasn't really been part of the fist team squad (except in emergency) for nearly 2 years, and been out on 2 loans.
The other is Beckie, a meh for me, but also likely on a much bigger pay day in the US.

Lets see who they bring in, with "deals close".

I should have read on before posting my view, but you're EXACTLY right!

Excellent point. A lot of these are just City recognising a player on the decline.

Taieb was only brought in as emergency cover when Bardsley had her first major injury and they needed backup for Roebuck. She was never supposed to do more than be an emergency backup.

Fully agree.

Taieb - Just awful.
Bronze - Looks like injuries and time have caught up with her. Nowhere near what she once was.
Stanway - Hasn’t pushed on and her decision making lacks. Seen her so many times attempt some stupid shots when had much better options. Definitely needs the fresh start.
Weir - Could argue this is a loss. She can produce moments of magic and I would have tried to keep her.
Scott - She’s not been a regular for 2/3 years. Great servant but definitely time to go.

Walsh we need to keep. She keeps possession and controls our tempo. Can be slightly negative at times but we don’t know what instructions she’s been given in different games. She’s also a blue through and through and if players like that leave you lose more than just what happens on the pitch. With Lucy going though it’s highly likely she’ll be off. She fell to bits when Lucy went last time.

Shaw is a funny one. Looked like she wasn’t an upgrade for the majority of this year but I suppose towards the end she did start to improve. Suppose it depends on her. If her hearts in it and she is here coz she wants to be I’d keep her. Might push on more next season.

For me you build around Roebuck, Greenwood, Walsh, Hemp, Kelly.

Hemp by the way is the best player in the league and we are lucky to have her. Phenomenal talent who will only get better.

When do we need to have a conversation with Steph to suggest it is time?

Didnt mention Steph as we’ll have to give her time next season after her injuries but you’d expect it to go the same way as Lucy wouldn’t you... Shame.

But I suppose centre back is arguably the least demanding position. She won’t have to get up and down the pitch as much as most other positions so she might be ok for another couple of years. That’s the most positive spin I can think of in fairness ha.

I think she’s pretty much done. I’d love to be wrong as she’d been superb, but time waits for no person.

I’d assume home life isn’t getting any easier either.

I wonder if she might call it a day after the Euros.

I agree with 90% of what you say.

My only issue is, ironically, highlighted about what you say in Walsh being the "tempo". I agree, but from the opposite view! I think she's not progressive enough and slows us down. It's an issue and maybe with Losada alongside her, that will change.

My view on Shaw is also linked to this. Throughout the season I've been saying Shaw wants ball to feet when she makes her runs (this is also true of White), but the play switches to the wings, when playing through the lines would do. Both of these forwards hold up the ball well and bring others into play when warranted.

For the player in Shaw, we saw how well she played going up against the defender directly and/ or laying off the ball for Hemp or Kelly

I don't think this is rocket science, but the personnel in the mid is crucial to see all possibilities, not just linear play.

As it stands we have teh basis of a decent midfield three but it still needs strengthening. Walsh (defensive cover, instigator), Losada (creativity) and Coombs/Angeldahl (box-to-box). Biggest problem there are the injuries Losada suffered last season but hopefully she can overcome that. Need at least 1 more body to challenge/cover that area though.

We're stacked out wide with Kelly, Hemp, Raso, Park and Blackstad. Will be difficult to keep them all happy.

Surprised by how calm/happy people are about Bronze going. She's definitely not what she was first time round, but she was still pretty solid when she was fit and a threat going forward. Not a problem if they've got a replacement lined up already (Batlle or Le Tissier?) but there's not that many better right-backs in the country imo. I'd have tried to keep her for another year while we rebuild elsewhere.

Would I be reading too much into this to suggest you'd like to see a change in how we play generally? Both of these are good points but they do require pretty significant changes in how we actually play with the ball.

Walsh may not be progressive at the moment (I'd dispute it personally but we'll go with it) but there's clearly a preference for slow/steady build-up in midfield whether she's there or not, and we might get more from Shaw by going through the middle but we clearly build around Hemp and Kelly out-wide. It'd be pretty big to move away from either of those.

I've seen a lot of mention of us not playing it quick enough, or not being progressive enough at time.

I put this down to the club's vision of having all teams playing the same style of football. Whether this is for the best for the women's team I'm not sure - the men have the capability to switch the ball to take advantage of overloads easier than the women.

I also think this is the reason we chose Cushing then Taylor as manager. Its easier to promote from within and maintain the style they've worked on within the club, than bring in an experienced manager from elsewhere who may want to do things their own way.

I guess there's plusses and minuses to the approach and maybe it doesn't suit all of our players always.
