Surprised by how calm/happy people are about Bronze going. She's definitely not what she was first time round, but she was still pretty solid when she was fit and a threat going forward. Not a problem if they've got a replacement lined up already (Batlle or Le Tissier?) but there's not that many better right-backs in the country imo. I'd have tried to keep her for another year while we rebuild elsewhere.

Would I be reading too much into this to suggest you'd like to see a change in how we play generally? Both of these are good points but they do require pretty significant changes in how we actually play with the ball.

Walsh may not be progressive at the moment (I'd dispute it personally but we'll go with it) but there's clearly a preference for slow/steady build-up in midfield whether she's there or not, and we might get more from Shaw by going through the middle but we clearly build around Hemp and Kelly out-wide. It'd be pretty big to move away from either of those.

A few pages back I suggested the women mix with men, once a week, to upscale a sense of their gameplay. This doesn't mean full bloodied pacing, just scaling up.

This would mean understanding whether the women are willing to challenge their current ability or stay comfortable.

Personally, I think that this doesn't have to change the way they play, but make it sharper. Put Losada in a De Bruyne role and I think our tempo changes.

There's so much more to get out of this team .

I've seen a lot of mention of us not playing it quick enough, or not being progressive enough at time.

I put this down to the club's vision of having all teams playing the same style of football. Whether this is for the best for the women's team I'm not sure - the men have the capability to switch the ball to take advantage of overloads easier than the women.

I also think this is the reason we chose Cushing then Taylor as manager. Its easier to promote from within and maintain the style they've worked on within the club, than bring in an experienced manager from elsewhere who may want to do things their own way.

I guess there's plusses and minuses to the approach and maybe it doesn't suit all of our players always.

Totally understand that view and my response to Laertes covers this reply.

Not inherently a personnel issue then, we're agreed there.

Hard to argue with what most people are saying in several well constructed posts about the recent departures. Can understand the logic behind majority of them.
It will now depend on the calibre of players recruited to replace them. That of course will then be aligned to how Taylor deploys them (or not in some cases).
Next few weeks should give an indication as to the direction squad is taking. Fingers are crossed but more in hope rather than expectation.

I seem to recall, a few years back, the US National Women's team lost a friendly game against a college's U-15 boys team.

No. This is not what I'm saying.

Not men vs women. A mixing of the team once a week. Gradually, I'd hope to see the women see the passes quicker. Into feet quicker. Trust their colleague in tight spaces.

This would include the skill to hold the possession of the ball.

Currently, the most times we lose the ball outside of poor passes, is when the team is not moving to create space and the player gets caught on the ball.

I believe challenging the women to play to a higher standard would change that on the pitch and their own beliefs.

Other than that, physically males and females are different in every physical single sport after growth spurts/ hormonal changes, so losing a friendly against the stronger gender is to be expected.

. . . . . . .

Hemp by the way is the best player in the league and we are lucky to have her. Phenomenal talent who will only get better.
Worth the ST money on her own. I hope we can get replacements for the departed players of the same quality as Lauren Hemp. We would be favourites for the title before a ball was kicked.

Salary cap..

It can't only be this though. Arsenal have held onto Miedema and Sam Kerr left NWSL to join Chelsea (ironically because the NWSL wage cap is way tougher than ours). Also, because the cap is set at % of turnover, if we wanted we could invest more into the women's team and pay higher wages (whether you think we should or not is a matter of opinion). There's clearly something not quite sitting right at City compared to other teams at the mo which can't only be explained by the salary cap.

Sorry if I mislead you, I just made that remark as a random aside comment. I know that's absolutely not what you were advocating. I have tried to get into watching City's women's games but, with a few exceptions it' hard work. Sometimes, it just seems so amateurish.

No, it's fine.

During writing it out it dawned on me you might have been making an observation, so I adjusted my comment at the end.

I know what you mean as per the game being 'a slog' as I was like that, at first.

That changed for me after I stopped comparing the games, directly and viewed them as games in their own right otherwise I'd be comparing the u18, u16 etc., to the men's game when they are similar, but not the same when it comes to levels.

Just try and enjoy the sport as they are City Women and they represent us.

Hemp on the left and Kelly on the right is almost unfair if they can both stay healthy. I love Ellen White and respect her for what she has done in her career. That said, a deadly clinical CF added to the mix with the aforementioned two. Wow, just wow.

Salary cap..
But what do other leagues do I mean I carnt imagine for example the German league allowing unlimited spending on womens teams I mean there is FFP in the mens game so is there not something in the womens ? How does FFP compare to salary cap ? I mean FFP has similar affect yet hasn’t stop our mens team but salary cap is stopping our womens team

No idea but generally shorter contracts than the mens game as well. Perhaps there’s some disagreements behind the scenes but we did/ do have a few who are/were approaching the ends of their careers too. Who knows let’s see who comes in.

Average salary here is £30000, Barcelona its £100000+. I know there are a few here getting more, but not many. If they are looking for enough cash to support them after a 10 year career i can see why they are leaving, Taylor or no Taylor....

As an aside, I do remember reading an article before last seasons CL final between Chelsea and Barcelona which explained how those 2 teams had broken transfer records and were paying huge wages to some players (Kerr is on about £350K I think). It then went on to say that the success wasn't anything to do with that though, it was all down to stellar mamangement by Hayes and her Barca counterpart, oblivious to the obvious double standards in reporting, which did make me smile..........
Chelsea fan.

When Sam Kerr joined it was reported that she was on £250,000. A number she pretty much confirmed in an interview with Australian TV. It's reasonable to guess that Kerr earned a pay rise when signing her extension at the start of 2021/22 but if it takes her up to as much as £350,000 I'd be surprised.

Pernille Harder is certainly on a similar deal to Kerr's and so must Fran Kirby be. Kirby's 2020/21 form made it crystal clear that she, not Harder or Kerr, is the best player in the side when fit. She signed her renewal when at the height of her form so I can't see how the club could possibly have justified offering her less than the other two.

My guess is that everyone else is on significantly less than those three but there is no doubt that we are good payers.
