I would have taken great delight at taking his car off him!

Can he get it back ? Presumably anyone with insurance a driving licence and a letter of authority can just turn up at the pound, pay the fee and drive away in it.
No not anymore you have to have a full licence, be the registered keeper, and have insurance, if your not the registerd keeper then someone elses insurance is invalid, and carlos himself wont be able to as his insurance will now be void as he doesnt have a proper licence.

Can't believe that foreign players' first UK clubs don't address this issue. The driving licence issue, I mean, not the stupidity! They should be given a mentor who can help with all sorts of financial and administrative things. Or is this the job of agents?

We certainly had a players liaison guy who did all this kind of stuff for the players until he ran foul of that utter c*nt currently polluting the managers office at QPR and was sacked, he was on 24 hour call out and sorted out everything from schools for the kids to having the right kind of breakfast cereal available.

I would be amazed if City did not have this facility , but i have been amazed before .

Was it Viera or Toure who had a problem recently ?

It's a complex issue and I know that in relation to cars, the time spent in the country is crucial. for example, if a player had a German registered car and moved over here and the car was based here permanently, then the car would have to be registered, taxed and insured over here. If, however, the vehicle goes back to Germany within a certain time, then it doesn't.

I'm not sure if the driving licence scenario is similar or not. Tevez could reasonably say that he spends a lot of time out of the country (think close season, internationals, European games etc) and it could well be that he still qualifies as a foreign national and so can drive on that licence.

It is very complex though. On the face of it you could see why a cop might book him and seize the car, because he has the power in those circumstances, but once Nick Freeman gets hold of it, I'm sure it will be a different matter!

You can drive for 12 months in GB on an international licence if you're a resident here, as Tevez is - after that you have to apply for a provisional and take the full test including theory to get a GB licence.

I think his licence would be good for 12 months from the last time he came in the country assuming he's not permanently settled . I'm sort of in the same position (driving wise, not professional athlete or money wise) and that's what I was told. The the police could press the issue if they want or if you don't have proof on you when driving
