World Athletics Championships 2019

Thought tonight’s has been the best night so far. Loved the high jump and him winning was a real fairytale. The woman’s 400m hurdles as well was an incredible race. Shame it’s taken a week for the crowd to actually turn up and come alive, makes a huge difference.

They only turned up to see their high jumper.

Half of them had left before the 400m final.

They're just not interested in athletics.

The BBC's coverage is pretty good to be fair.

This time they’ve had lots of time to add value/filler (depending on your POV) to the coverage due to how the timings work over one extended session, and their decision to continue coverage non stop rather than break in between.

It’s often frustrating for athletics fans, say at the Olympics or Commonwealths, where they’ll cut away for a super-bantamweight first round bout or similar between each track final, leaving too little time for a analysis, interviews, or field event coverage. Red button has helped in recent years, though that’s just basic comms stream.

Thought that was pretty sad seeing the whole stadium empty as the 400m men were literally settling into their blocks. Even by the time it had finished you could hear the noise echoing around the stadium as people had all gone.

Entirely the fault of the IAAF for staging it there and insisting the events were viewable by a european/American audience. Thus, due to the time difference, the men's 400m final was taking place at half past midnight local time. Can't really blame the locals tbh.

I don't think the time difference had anything to do with last night's mass exodus.

There was only one race to go and that was a final.
