------------------------ Kompany ---- Vidic ----------------------

------------------------------ M. Neuer ---------------------------

Subs.: Hart, Pique, Lahm, Xabi A., Iniesta, Gerrard, Sneijder and Forlan.
Sorry for nitpicking, but you really think Hart has been one of the top two goalkeepers in the world in 2010/11?

I don´t like Iker Casillias, Stekelnburg, Adler, De Gea so yeah :=)

Generally in sport, 'world class' means the top 10, i.e. in Golf & Tennis. So I would guess in football World class would mean top 10 in each position.

In that case I would say
Hart is one of the top 10 keepers easily.
Kolarov is in the top 10 left backs.
Kompany would make a top 10 of central defenders on current form.
De Jong is in the top 10 defensive midfielders.
Silva would be close to the top 10 wingers/forwards, I would put Ronaldo, Iniesta, Pedro, Schneijder, Robben & Messi all ahead of him, based on goals, but Silva would be close.
Ya Ya would be close to any central midfield top 10, as box to box players don't really exist anymore.
On current form Tevez would have to be one of the top strikers in the world along with Torres, Villa and Ibrahamovic.

If world class meant a world 11, on form Tevez would be a certainty, Hart and De Jong would be close.
Hart has not had the best season, but it has been better than that off most keeper, Neuer is not a great keeper according to the German media he was selected as a youngster to be the new number 1, but they were that concerned about his form prior to the WC that Hans Jorge Butt was being lined up to be number 1 and he is awful. Buffon rarely plays, and is no longer half the keeper he was, Casilias is his only competition outside England, and he is very hit and miss. Excellent in the Spanish league but struggles for Spain on occasion and in the CL. In my opinion Hart is in a straight fight with Cech and Reina for the world's best.

silly comment, world class isnt the best 1 or 2 players in every postion, world class is possibly the best 5-10 players in each postion, hence i would say tevez, silva, kompany, dejong, dzeko, kolarov, hart are all world class as i wouldnt say there are more than 9 better players than them in their postions.

These comments sum up the problem with the phrase "World Class": no-one can agree on what it means.

I can think of four different definitions:
1) Players currently good enough that they would make a world "select" 11.
2) Players currently good enough that they would make a world "select" squad of 25-30.
3) Players currently good enough that they would make a "top 100" of players currently playing in the world
4) (and I think this is closest to the OP's original point since he talks about ever having played for City) players that have played for City that would make an all-time top 100 "hall of fame" for world footballers.

Using the above criteria:
1) no-one (but Tevez comes close + could nudge it on current form)
2) Tevez (maybe Silva)
3) Tevez,Silva,Yaya,Balotelli
4) Kaziu Deyna (and maybe Tevez in a few years time)

Without meaning to be picky.... and according to Four Four Two magazines current 100 best players in the world which was published only a month ago....

Tevez, Silva, Yaya, Dzeko, Dejong, Adebayor (still City) and Hart

are all in the top 100. That is 7.... not bad at all. Surprised Balotelli wasn't in there and i fully expect Kompany / Kolarov maybe even Johnson to join the list as our profile raises around Europe during the next few years.

Personally i tend to class world class as best 4/5 in each position - GK / LB / RB / LW / RW / DM / AM / Strikers.

For me Tevez / Silva / Dejong (top 2 DM in world aty mo) and perhaps Yaya.

Kompany will get there though :-)

No, that would be included higher International Class, listed.

Worldclass in Football means consistantley highest performing. The Worldclass Player, is the Player who can judge the Game, showing high winning battle-rate in Duels and sort his Team right.

Highest Worldclass: (People who can turn every Game)
- Lionel Messi
- C fake Ronaldo
- Arjen Robben
- Xavi Hernandez

Worldclass Keepers: Iker Casillias, Manuel Neuer, Peter Cech, Julio Cesar
Worldclass Defenders: Chiellini, N. Vidic, V. Kompany, Pique, John Terry, Lucio
Worldclass Backs: Maicon, Phillip Lahm, Dani Alves, Sergio Ramos
Worldclass Defs. Midfielders: Schweinsteiger, De Rossi, Xabi A, Cambiasso, Essien
Worldclass Off. Midfielders: Iniesta, Gerrard, Lampard, Cesc, Sneijder, Kaka
Worldclass Wingers: Ribery, Nani, Robinho, Gareth Bale
Worldclass Forwards: Forlan, Eto´o, Villa, Tevez, Rooney, Torres, Drogba

Now, higher International Class is:

hInternationalclass Keepers: Pepe Reina, Lloris, Stekelenburg, Akinfeev, Joe Hart, David de Gea, Valdes,....
hInternationalclass Defenders: Ferdinand, Puyol, Kolo Toure, T.Silva, Subotic, Friedrich,....
hInternationalclass Backs: Ashley Cole, Evra, Sagna, Coentrao, Kolarov,...
hInternationalclass Defs. Midfielders: Mascherano, Yaya Toure, Mv Bommel, De Jong, Fletcher,...
hInternationalclass Off. Midfielders: Gourcuff, Müller, Özil, Rvd. Vaart, Nasri, Silva, Modric,...
hInternationalclass Wingers: Juan Mata, Balotelli, Arshavin, Jesus Navas, Angel Di Maria, Adam Johnson, Eden Hazard,...
hInternationalclass Forwards: Higuain, van Persie, Dzeko, Suarez, Milito,...

It's very subjective as others have said.

I would say Tevez & Silva would make a "world's best" squad.

De Jong is a fair shout as well; not all teams play that kind of DM but he is one of the best in that particular position.

I think Kompany will be thought of as highly in the near future.

Can't think of anyone else from the last 20 years tbh. Robinho could have been. Anelka probably never quite made that level.

Think you've pretty much nailed that.

I would have DeJong in World class though and drop Vinny to high international. Dejong has been the best DM in the prem for at least 18 months... also major influence in getting a pretty goal shy Dutch side to the World Cup final.

Although Vinney has been mint.... aside from the Olympics and CL as a teenager, he's not really played on the big stage outside of the Prem...., althogh that will change ;-)

Also Ashley Cole as much as i despise him is pretty much the most consistent and well rounded full back in the World and should join the elite.

Other than that.... bang on fella. Bang on.

Beanhead very well said.

All three names are very debatable.

I didnt watch all the last Season Games so i can´t really rate De Jong&Kompany good. At the moment both are playing really good. But Players like Schweinsteiger and Cambiasso lead their Teams through the Champions League, De Jong isn´t in that Stage. Also on the World Cup i have feeling Mark van Bommel played an important role. If we read next Month Storys about De Jong in superlatives, then we are going to know he came to Worldclass. The same with Kompany?

Ashley Cole belongs in the Worldclass list, that´s true.
