World Class Players Or Passionate Players Who Give Everything?

Nonsense thread. You become world class by being effective week after week. By being the best in your position or top two or three at least. Anyone who says they would prefer a Dickov over a Yaya is deluded. You get a hybrid and your set but they are few and far between. That’s your Gerrards and Terrys. Hopefully Foden and Doyle for us.
However you should always choose world class.
Think you are completely missing my point mate. My point is we are missing players who fight for the badge. We have world class players but many don't show grit and determination for the team when shit gets messy. Some are happy just cashing a cheque. We could rely on the Kompany's & Zabaleta's to have a go and drag the team out of the flames. Zabba and De Jong were not world class but in terms of fight and passion and pride for the club they would leave everything on the pitch. Kompany too but he was world class as was Silva. Zabba and De Jong used what they had to great effect. We are lacking that passion, grit and determination now and we need more Zabba's and De Jong's because when shit hits the fan we are in trouble as nobody grabs the team and drags them out of the shit like players of old use to.

Imagine thinking that players can become world class without having passion for the game. That is their motivation, the thing that drives them to become the best when they're playing in the favelas of Brazil, far from the riches of the world. Absolute nonce thread.

Nonce thread? I beg your pardon! Lol

I mean these guys were passionate in and 17/18 and 18/19 right? And at times last season too, and even the first half against Wolves.

Passionate is probably the wrong word. Despite what you may think they all want to be here and they all want to succeed.

Belief is the issue. In themselves as individuals, as a team, and in the system Pep sets up. I do think some of that stems from Pep, as in at times I'm not sure he believes in the players. But hopefully with the new recruits and a clean slate of health there's an excellent chance to reset.

Plus now that nobody here or elsewhere expects us to even make the top 4 after one bad result, we can go on our business under much less pressure, 2014 style.

Passion, energy, aggression, bite (not sure a single word - or even those four - can capture what we need. Zabba had it, Toure didn't (and yes Toure was better in every other respect). For them Keane had it in spades, Beckham didn't. A team need both - we currently have the skill but lack the sprinkling of bite.
