He’s a great player but Argentina might be better without Messi - they have good players but they all look intimidated by Messi. Be a brave decision to drop Messi but they certainly need more of a collective team ethic.

Serge is never going to get a look in for Argentina while Messi is playing.
Every ball in the Argentina build up it seems has to go through Messi and then he won't play anyone else in after that.

Argentina were way to slow to attack any space that appeared and their movement was mostly terrible. Disciplined approach from Iceland and they way they run through the attackers when they defend reminded me of Liverpool. They walked that tightrope between foul and acceptable physicality that must frustrate players incredibly.

I want better for them, if only for Nico and Kun, but I posted this just this morning:

I’ll be rooting for them [France] when England aren’t playing, but I think there’s something flakey about them. Talent’s not the problem. Brazil will be there or thereabouts. So will Germany. The talent’s there, but the discipline too.
If I were a betting man, I’d put some money on this prediction: the big shock of the tournament in its early stages — Argentina to go out at the group stage. The more I look at that group, the more it seems to me to be one big banana skin for them.

Well, I reckon both judgements have borne out by what we've seen today. Still a long way to go. We'll see.
