World Cup 2018 | 1st July | R16: Spain vs Russia, KO 15:00 (BST)

Spain have gone for a double pivot today. I don't blame them they are conceding too many goals. Piquet and Ramos have been a bit ropey at the back and De Gea has been bloody awful.

They most likely wouldn’t have qualified had it been elsewhere. But don’t underestimate a home tournament and it giving teams an extra 10%. If they work hard as a team they could make it difficult for Spain.

For Spain, like City, it’s often about the early goal; score that and you can play with a relaxation and it can end up a healthy shoreline; don’t score it and pressure just rises and rises as the game goes on.

I think Russia have had less than a minute possession. Out of 19, or ur seems that way. They try to move forward quickly but don’t have the class to do anything and it’s right back at them.

Good that Spain scored as it means they have to try to attack. Would be good if they got a goal but I can’t see it.

Anyone noticed how Kilbane is spicing up his commentary in this game. He’s talked about the forward Dzuba ‘opening up his legs’ and the OG scorer Ignashevich ‘having a feel of Ramos’. I’m sure he’ll make something of Zhirkov before long. Sexy stuff, Kevin.
