World Cup 2026

I thought it worth starting a World Cup thread as events surrounding it are already taking shape. Mods, if you want to move this, that’s fine.
The travel restrictions on certain countries are already causing FIFA a headache. There are exemptions from the restrictions for teams and management but not for broadcasters, journalists or fans. So if you want to go to the WC and you are from Iran, hard luck you won’t be allowed entry to USA. With some countries with visa restrictions they will find visas taking up to 325 days and so fans are already pushed to apply in time. These restrictions apply widely to Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
FIFA are considering putting all the matches involving restricted nations in Mexico and Canada. That suggests a certain manipulation of the first round groups.
Of relevance here is the refusal of entry to a Brit who is due to take part in an international judo competition. He is an ex soldier with an exemplary record who fought alongside American special forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has no criminal record but the US authorities will not give him a reason for refusal.
This threatens to jeopardise the World Cup but FIFA continue to fawn over Trump.
Sorry, as poor as it seems to be, what has the judo guy got to do with the World Cup?

Tickets gone online. My brother in law lives in Boston. Currently queuing online and time at moment is 45 minutes for visa pre sale draw

Did mine too, only a 10 minute wait.

Already have hospitality tics to 3 games in Texas, also RTB’s for a R16 and R32 game…

Fifa need to get a grip before they let the orange sex offending man baby totally take control of the competition and makes it a farce. Just remove the USA completely if he wants to interfere, go with just Canada and Mexico instead, if there isn't enough viable grounds, get some of the south American countries involved in hosting, Brazil had an entire world cup themselves 10 years ago. They'd easily be able to step in.

I was just thinking about the possibility of Canada and Mexico being able to share the load. If they can't I can think of a couple of European nations that could cover it with short notice.

Infantino silence is deafening. He's probably on the Epstein list as well.

Trump trying to move matches from "unsafe cities"

Funny enough these unsafe cities are in states controlled by Democratics. It's going to be an absolute shit show

All part of a longer term plan to put troops on the streets and to say the nation is under threat…. a great excuse to suspend elections and the democratic process. A few successfully did this in the 1930’s I believe.

Most of them really are, at least the trouble if there is any will be swiftly dealt with by the defunded police.

I'm looking forward to this world cup it makes a change from whinging about Russia having the Olympics and the last World Cup being held in a human rights hot as hell void.

I think there will be an almighty reset in football following World Cup 2026.
Overload of teams, media, distances travelled and poor quality games, I think, will force the game to combust and hopefully start again.

Such bullshit to be extending it to more teams and more venues and media to fit it all in.

It should be about the world’s best teams playing off against one another without having to entertain emerging countries who are new to the game. Thats what the regional competitions are for.

Probably only worth tuning in to the quarter finals and beyond

We have seen in recent World Cups that there are few if any decent games until we reach the latter stages. 64 teams is crazy - there will be so many one sided games with the media talking up the minnows prospects… all going to be very tiresome.

Ticket prices are absolutely ridiculous, and so is FIFA 's statement defending the prices and also in that statement about reselling tickets they have literally given scalpers
carte blanche to rip off fans even more

People are buying them and they are going to keep selling them, if people don't vote with their wallets this is the end product.

Working class game my giddy arse.

48 teams this time. I hear they’re talking about 64 for next time which sounds like madness, UNLESS they do away with qualification for, say, the top 40 teams. No international breaks is something I could get behind…

Minor countries have a vote just like other countries, consequently UEFA/FIFA etc have to protect their interests as well as the interests of Brazil, Argentina, Germany and England. I'd take out the top 20 nations and split the rest into several pots with 12 joining the 20 already there. Eight groups of four, and any of the big boys that finished third or fourth in their groups would be relegated and replaced by the qualifier with the best results at the tournament.

Did they? I don't see a gap in elections anywhere in history let alone the 1930's, every 4 years like clockwork.
