World Cup 2026

I was having an argument the other day with someone who insisted that Neymar would 'obviously start' in the 2002 World Cup squad. Just a reminder to anyone who doesn't remember, that's the front three with Ballon d'Or winner Rivaldo, Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo, and future Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldinho.

Would be tricky to fit into that squad if that was their typical formation. It looks like their width comes from their full backs.

Neymar in his prime might be a 50/50 with Rivaldo. I think their both a bit underrated nowadays. But especially Neymar because he's a bit of a c**t, people almost don't want to remember him in a good way. When really he was worth watching Brazil matches for. Just to see him.

But Neymar now. No chance!

Neymar was one of my favorite players and definetly one of the best in the world at his prime.

Neymar was superb for Brazil and pretty much carried them for several years. Rivaldo weirdly doesn't get talked about with the same passion or nostalgia Ronaldo or Ronaldinho did but he was absolutely superb. Had those flashy moments but just executed the simple things so well.

Ronaldo for me would have been the greatest ever had injuries not impacted him so severely. What a player he was.

Probably didn't help that he did that theatrical fall clutching his face when the ball hit him in the chest!

I've just seen Brazil are hoping to have Neymar in their World Cup squad???

Wasn't he last semi relevant around the early days of when him and Messi were both at PSG? I.e yonks ago
FIFA demanded he was in the squad. Brazil fans know he's a dud and are pissed off at the decixion to include him.

Never been so unenthusiastic about a World Cup in my lifetime.
Me too in fact they are sucking the life out of the game i love.First started going in 75.There were a ref 2 linesmen, they made mistakes sure, but even with the use of VAR it is worse than it's ever been.
The season just passed i only watched City games due to the mad kick off times only got to 9 games.
As an exiled blue in west london who used to go all over the country with my daughter in the 80s ,90s and early 2000s.We have started going to Qpr,Wealdstone and Harrow Borough,The standard of football is not as good but at least when the ball bits the net 9 times out of 10 its a goal.I never thought i would say this but Premier league football and VAR assisted results is not for me.
I know we are not the only ones from talking to fans of other clubs.

I’ll start watching the last 32 when it’s knockouts. The group stages are laughable. Absolutely no jeopardy whatsoever. They really are trying to completely destroy the sport, they are halfway there anyway with var. it’s a complete money grabbing shitshow.
When folk rave about the WC 82’ in Spain as one of the best ever (err, me included) they conveniently forget how dull Italy were in the 1st Group stage … Tardelli’s celebration has somehow managed to mask this?
