FIFA introducing a new offside technology 8 days before a World Cup starts? What could possibly go wrong?!?

(Apparently audio signals will be pinged to linesmen allowing them to raise their flag when a player is >10cm offside)

Cynics might think that this is so certain incorrect but 'desirable' decisions can simply be dismissed as teething problems...

Given the shit show of VAR and the PL version of offside tech, I understand people will be apprehensive on this. That said this is very literally the process I’ve been asking for them to implement for nearly two years (maybe FIFA reads my comments). If it works then this has the potential to make those “is he offside” goal celebration delays a thing of the past, and everybody should celebrate that.

Also, that’s not the only tech they’re introducing. They’ve also got tech which uses the ball chip that indicates to officials when the ball is out of bounds, and it can determine who the last player to touch the ball was. This should prevent the regular occurrence of corners not being awarded correctly. They’ve also 3D scanned every player accurately so no more ridiculous Foden’s arse nonsense. The tech will be based on the actual body size of the player, making it more accurate.

The real benefit is that if you figure out line calls, offsides and goal line tech so it is all automated, then what do we need VAR for? Hopefully we can bin the current process completely at that point and either do something different or get rid of it outside of really crazy things like mistaken identity.
