World Darts Championship 2024

Mozzer it was a long time since I followed the county scene but all the top pros back in the day played county darts so it was a high standard you’d be talking roughly low 80’s to near enough mid 90’s . The lowes arms in Denton was a good place on Fridays for exhibition games,
Cheers A57. I was thinking that the old school darters wouldn't stand a chance in the modern game. Looking up an old favourite John Lowe, his averages were 99 to 104 so he still would be a top player.

I’m not too sure about that. That miss changed the match. Littler would have gone 5-2 up and was on a roll and would have knocked the stuffing right out of Humphries. As it was he missed and that gave Humphries his chance, which he took and he’s not World number 1 for nothing.
Lots of unnecessary comments on here about Littler. He played the tournament in a good spirit, even in the final he applauded his opponent on a good throw. As Humphries said, he will be back because he is such a good player.
It’s hard to call it a miss too really. One shot at it. Doubles are usually around 40% success at the top level. Humphries had a very slightly better percentage yesterday but not in the first few sets. The bigger error was in set 11 which he should have won with 3 darts at double.

I think Premier League is a bit soon for him but it’s clearly not too soon for Hearn! Kerching

That’s fairly mad he’d have only been 14 and she was 19. I suppose she probably thought he was well into his twenties.

Most reports say just a few weeks together.
Maybe they’ve known each other for a year or two.
Without wanting to be cynical she just got onboard at the right time :)

I believe they play darts at the same club or something like that, so it would have been obvious he was a talented player, just saying lol

They weren’t his career averages, they were his highest ever averages. When John Lowe won the World Championship in 1979 he averaged 84!
The first two of Bristow’s BDO World Championship wins saw him record final averages of 88.10 and 86.10 in 1980 and 1981 respectively, the treble of wins between 1984 and 1986 were about 95.
Those numbers do suggest that most of the old school darters would have struggled to even qualify let alone win…..

But the old schoolers were playing after 10 pints :)
