For sheer chaos: Seaman, Sun, Tarnat, Sommeil and Distin take some beating.
Don't think any of them could speak english.

A few seasons ago, we were reduced to playing Michael Ball at centre back! I can't remember the rest of the back 5 but just having him was bad enough! (Not a knock on him, he's just not a centre back!)

From my memory of what I consider our darkest hour, 5-0 by United in 1994, we had Tracey in net, Edghill and David Brightwell who gave the worst performance at Left Back I have ever witnessed.

In his defence he was right footed and up against Kanchelskis, however he was slower at changing direction than the Ark Royal and all in all it was the stuff of utter nightmares!

The defense that finished the game against Liverpool in 2008 after Zabaleta was sent off something of a shambles. Gelson Fernandes - Dunne - Richards - Garrido.

I think it qualifies as the worst defensive combination simply because a combination of Richards, Kompany, Dunne- Garrido was available to Hughes from players on the pitch.

David James

Michael Ball, Javi Garcia, Stevan Savic, Danny Mills

Mills might be a tad harsh, but as far as I know this is the one.

-- Tue Oct 15, 2013 6:43 pm --

Perhaps Jerome Boateng at right-back, but in his defence, we were playing him in the wrong position and is now a world class center back

James saved us from relegation in 03/04

I think that's one of the biggest myths in City history. Terry Phelan was actually playing left back in that game. It was awful nonetheless! http://youtu.be/jWYcYTX50bc

David brightwell plus 1 other.

Worst player I've seen in a city shirt.

Can't remember who his central defensive partner was, but from memory he was responsible for every goal in a 4-0 dicking at qpr in the early 90's

Just watched on you tube back four looked like

Andy Hill - Keith Curle - D Brigthwell - Neil Poynton 7th Mar 1992

Bit harsh about costing all 4 goals, 1st 2 were because Brightwell did not cut out through ball and Curle could not get back.

No Vaughan? Kernaghan? Beasley? David Brightwell? Granville? Jobson?

I'd take just about any of the OP's back 4 over that lot

I always thought jobson did ok for us. Hey up the good old drunken days of youth

I know what you mean i cant remember (probably for the best) but those listed had to play in some combination that was worse than those listed so far. I also remember Nick Fenton playing cb one game vaguely, just before Morrison turned up, so the back 4 just before Big Andy signed was the worst the club have ever had IMO.

How can Michael Ball be mentioned in this thread? Look at the technique on this:

If we had Beckenbauer and Baresi in the same back four as David Brightwell and Micheal Frontzec , we would be still be a shambles
