We've all heard of 'second album syndrome', which bands set the world alight with their debut, but then released a stinker after that?

Surely The Darkness' "One Way Ticket To Hell" takes the cake. "Permission..." was a good album, definitely a parody of hair bands of the eighties but wrote some good tunes and I could easily listen to the whole album 1-10.

However, Hawkins got a big head and suddenly The Darkness became a parody of a band parodying hair bands and the whole thing fell off the rails.

agreed wheesly permission was f^cking brilliant- what a breath of fresh air it was when it came out then one way ticket was just balls!

maybe it was because justin was shooting so much smack into himself he didnt know his arse from his head.wonder what he's up to these days?

other notables-
the killers could never beat hot fuss IMO

hootie and the blowfish
bahahaha

Aquas first album- Aquarium was brilliant on every level. I was really excited in 2000 in the run up to Aquarius being released, sadly it was poor in comparison. As with most bands they struggled to recapture the spirit that gained them such success with 'Barbie Girl' and 'Turn Back Time' on the their first album.

Second Coming.
Stone Roses.

a bit unfair that,
i think it is a pretty good album in its own right
it was always going to be not as good as one of the best albums if not the best of the nineties

Coldplay. Started off average and every subsequent album is a more over the top polished squeaky clean formulaic re-hash of the sound on their previous albums. Makes me want to puke.

I'd have to agree with the darkness, permission to land was a belter, now their utter tripe.

Proof of cocaine + music = "utter tripe".

Also Dirty Pretty Things with Romance At Short Notice, got some top tunes but just nothing like the first album, waterloo to anywhere is amazing, one of my favourite albums ever but second album never got anywhere near the first.
